You are allowed to have Tylenol while pg, did you try that?

Its Tylenol while pg, and then ibuprofen (not tylenol) while nursing.

I did take a little this morning..and it helped a bit. I jsut can't take it in the evening or at night because it makes me hallucinate at nighttime for some strange reason.

I didn't know that about the Ibuprofen when nursing..I'll remember that.

For the past few weeks I've had tooth/jaw pain that I believe is related to my wisdom teeth. It's been bothering me more lately and last night was so severe I could barely stand it.

I have contacted an oral surgeon who will do an x-ray on Thursday to see if it is infected.

If it is infected it could cause pre-term labor so I will have to have the wisdom teeth extracted OR take an anti-biotic. The extraction will have to be done with local anesthetic only and my body doesn't respond well to local anesthesia (I need LOTS of it for it to numb which isn't an option when pregnant).

PLEASE, if the Lord brings me to your mind, pray that the teeth aren't infected.

If they aren't infected I can handle the pain. Right now I'm just concerned that they are and the baby may be in danger.

If they do happen to be infected please pray that I will be able to take an antibiotic instead of having to have them extracted and take harmful pain-killers. Natural stuff doens't work well for me.

I know this may seem like a small matter, but it's of importance to me and is causing me a lot of stress lately. I'd appreciate your prayers.

You know, I just read your original post again......your regular dentist can help you out if it is an infection....maybe they could get you in sooner than Thurs.??

I don't have a dentist in the area yet..my old and wonderful dentist is back in Maryland. The dentist my OB recommended seemed to say taht i needed the x-ray to see if it was an infection...

I hear it is safe to get small amts of xray during the second trimester...its not recommended, but on the other hand you may need one. The dr will assess if the risk of the infection is greater than the risk to the baby.

My shoulder goes out alot, and one time it went out during a pregnancy....they had to re-set it, and then they did have to xray one time to be sure it was set before they let me go home. They protect the baby with one of those heavy cloths though and the xrays are directed at the one spot they are checking out. Also, at least in the hospital (not sure about dentists) any time they give you drugs for pain or anesthesia, they monitor the baby's heartrate as well for any abnormalities.

Re. tylenol and ibuprofen, I believe the tylenol is excreted in breastmilk...whereas ibuprofen crosses into the placenta. Plus, ibuprofen contracts your blood vessels so works really good after childbirth for pain and stopping bleeding, but is bad for the baby while pregnant.

Yeah, it's been 15 years ago that it happened to me.......I don't remember the dentist doing an x-ray, but he must have. My mouth was so swollen on the inside of my cheek that I kept biting it accidentally. It came on real sudden. I woke up one morning and thought I had a bad ear infection or something.....then a little while later I realized the inside of my mouth was swollen in the back and surrounding area and called the dentist. He got me right in, prescribed an antibiotic and told me to make an appt. with an oral surgeon for a few weeks afterward. They weren't in a hurry, though. He told me the antibiotics would take care of the problem for now....though the infection would eventually come back, so I'd need to have the wisdom teeth removed because they were not able to come in properly. Anyway, like Kita said, they CAN give you an x-ray safely....just make sure you tell them you're pregnant and such. They'll cover your front side well with huge lead aprons to protect your little one. (I had one once when I was pregnant once)

Actually in the "old days" before ultrasound, that is how they checked babies! My grandma had twins and they checked her belly with an xray to make sure there was two, and see if everything was okay. Funny to think about now, but sure enough they did!

I won't say they turned out "okay" LOL but...healthy!

I went to my medicine cabinet and pulled out a bottle - wish I could just give it to you. It is a mouthwash that you can only get if prescribed to you. The name is Oris. My wife used this when she had tooth problems when pregnant with Nathaniel and it helped SO much. You should look into it.

Wonderful! I didn't know this. Not that I'm going to be pregnant or anything...I am past that stage. :Green

God bless you as you look into this, Rachel. It sounds like a plan to me. :smile

Thank you ALL for your wonderful advice to me!

I went to the oral surgeon today and had my x-ray. He said that it's not infected and that the extraction can totally wait until after the baby is born!:clap::clap:

Hooray! The advice you guys have given me has helped me a lot and the pain is a lot better. Dr said it may be because of the sinus trouble I've been having effecting my teeth.

Either way, my baby isn't in any danger and I'm so VERY thankful for all of your prayers. God heard and totally answered.

That's great! My husband has alot of sinus problems and he says it makes his teeth hurt...esp if there is already a tooth problem to begin with.

I waited on my wisdom teeth to grow out to have them pulled. except one of them, it couldn't come out and it was killing me . I would have kept my other wisdom teeth but it was decayed and toothbrush couldn't reach there. .. it sure was cheaper have them "yanked" out than the surgical one. If you plan on getting pregnant again anytime soon after the baby, do it after birth.. all of them so you don't have to worry about it.

and if you have weak enamels, use soft toothbrush and don't brush too hard. It weakened the enamels some more. But I am sure your dentist have already told you that.
