Chuck Cooper always sits in the same place in Calvary Assembly's 5,500-seat sanctuary. From his perspective in Section 11, Row B, Cooper has watched the 200-member choir supplanted by an eight-member praise team, the number of Sunday services reduced from four to one and the bodies who once filled the church replaced by empty seats.

One of Orlando's first megachurches, Calvary has seen its congregation shrink from more than 5,000 to 650 — about the size it was when Cooper joined in 1970.

I am for church growth, but not for mega churches. TGL

Individual churches grow and shrink, stand firm, become lukewarm, turn to watered down ways, rise and fall. This happens with all churches over the course of the years.

This little town used to have five churches, now we have four. Our church had an attendance of about 40 when our pastor first came here and now we average between 200-220. The local Methodist church used to be full, now they only draw a small handful.

How will they ever survive as church with only 650 people? I would love for my church to grow to 650, never mind drop to it. Of course doing it the way Calvary did, only sets you up for that drop.

It all comes from the frist sins, our eyes, then for the love of money. Like the poor christian that gets Saved, when he or she starts moving up in the World, it is easyer to fall into temptation. The more a preacher earns the same thing, If your church is all about growth only, building project only, and how can we please the community so that they may join. Its time for you to get out of there. I don't care how long you have been going there. Our life time membership is with God, and not a church.
