In this little town folks used to be able to ride or drive just about anything without any problems Then the State police started sticking their nose into things. They made various threats against the town until the town council passed several ordances making driving different things illegal or highly restricted.

We had a WWII vet who had been on the Bataan death march and suffered years as a POW under the Japanese. Due to malnutrition from those years as a POW he had health issues and he lost his drivers licence. He then got around town on his riding mower. That's how he got to the post office, the cafe, and out and about to visit, get some air and go to the park. The town tried to continue to allow this elderly veteran the ability to have this freedom of movement but the State police came down hard so the poor man became home bound unless he could get a ride with someone.

They claim "public safety" to prevent him from hitting another vehicle with a 2000-4000 pound car -- which I can see and understand.
They claim "public safety" to prevent him from hitting another vehicle with a 200-250 pound lawnmower -- which I can't quite wrap my head around.

Laws to protect a person from someone else actions -- no problem.
Laws to protect a person from himself -- that's where the insanity kicked in.

The signs used to say "Swim at your own risk", those signs have been replaced with "No Swimming".

Yes, and there is the problem before us. The elite rulers think they can create a perfect world, full of cooperation, safety, well being and all good things. Their way of bringing about their perfect world is to try and regulate every aspect of our lives, while most often exempting themselves from the rules they place upon others.

They've been trying for years to make this a perfect world, yet all they have accomplished so far is make it worse, & that is the only thing they will do in the future, is make it worse, & turn further away from God.

Speaking of a perfect world...I saw a news story about some home that was invaded by bats in Illinois. They talked about this for a bit and then one of the reporters said something about they would kill any bat that got into their home. The other reporter said if you are in Illinois you better be careful because there are 26 protected species of bats in that State! If you harm one of those protected bat species, you can get series fines, possibly worse.

I had never heard of such! I wonder if other States have such protection for certain bats?

I don't think we have that many species of bats, but over here they are protected and if they infest your loft, you are not allowed to get rid of them.

Rattlesnakes are classified as endangered in my state (I assure you that they are endangered getting too close to me!)

Just about any snake is endangered if they are close to me...especially if they show up on my property.

We lived here about 10 years without ever seeing a snake. Then one fall we had three of them. I opened my garage door and there was a snake coiled under where the door had been. That happened three times. Each time ended with a dead snake.

Next spring three or four more showed up in the same place. All three died for their intrusion. No snakes since then. Hopefully none this year either.

I didn't even realize there were than many different species of bats around. One got into our house several years ago. I couldn't get it to go out the door. It eventually flew up our stairs so I got a toy tennis racket and knocked it from the air, took it outside, finished it off, tied it in a bag and put it out in the trash. Shhhhh!

Bats and the law

In England and Wales, bats and their roosts are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (amended by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 and the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act 2004), and the Conservation Regulations 1994.
A roost is defined in the Wildlife and Countryside Act as "any place that a wild bat uses for shelter or protection", and the roost is protected whether bats are present in it or not.
The law states that it is a criminal offence for anyone (without the permission of English Nature), to intentionally kill, injure, handle or photograph a bat (except where flying outdoors). However anyone who finds a bat that is ill or injured may take care of it in whatever way is most humane and practical.
It's also illegal to keep a bat (although sick or injured bats may be kept until ready for release). If convicted, you could be fined up to £1000 per bat.

Aren't our governments wonderful, taking care for bats even if they are a menace to us?

I saw a story in the news several years ago about bats in a neighborhood in Florida. They were swooping at people around dusk and people were trying to hit them as they swooped on them. Some enviromentalist called the police and they showed up and told the people they were not allowed to swing at the bats because they were protected.

I think they are bats.
