I was asked this by a church member this Sunday morning, can anyone help me?

Bible character that had a child by his mother, the baby died, possibly there was a green tree on babies grave decorated with tinsel.

Jerry, It sounds as if the person is getting a few things confused. There is a passage in Jeremiah where they brought trees into the house and decorated them, but the rest may be parts of other passages all put together.

Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

As you no doubt know, David had a baby with Bath-sheba, and the baby died. As for a man going into his mother, I vaguely remember something like that, but am not sure. I know that Absalom set up a tent and committed adultery with David's wives, openly, before all Israel, and that may fit in there somewhere. I do not remember it saying that they conceived a child and it died though. Keep in mind, just because I cannot recollect it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Was this a riddle for you, or was the question given to make a point? Some people stretch things a little, as you no doubt know, to make their point. (I may be embarrassed if someone comes up with the answer, because I cannot recollect anything like that with all three elements together.)

"Some people say The origin of Christmas started in Babylon by Nimrod's Wife/mother claimed a evergreen tree grew overnight from a dead stump and that meant the Nimrod would come forth unto new life. On the the anniversary of his birthday December 25th he would visit the tree and leave gifts on it." Taken from another thread "Is Christmas Biblical".
Is this perhaps what you are talking about? I think even though Nimrod is mentioned in the Bible, the rest of this, (wife/mother, the stump and the evergreen tree) is man-made tradition, fiction whatever.

I generally take what this lady says seriously, her husband was the man who baptized me back in 61 as our pastor, she has quite a bit of knowledge of the Bible and she puts me to the test as well as others many times. No doubt, at 70 pl;us years she still studies her Bible. Many times failing to sleep in the early hours of the morning she studies the Bible. She said, I regret having given away so many of my husbands study books, much to her daughter husband who is a Baptist pastor, mainly his Bible which she gave to a granddaughter a few years back. She said, I which I had his preaching Bible, I feel I could find what I'm referring to in it.

In my mind I seem to remember a Bible character that fathered a baby by his mother, yet I cannot connect the green tree on the babies grave with tinsel place on it. I want to think I remember hearing about this in one of the 1st 3 semesters of the Faith Bible Institute study that I did not getting to finish because of so much trouble with my neck and head and the surgeries I had during those years.

I quickly thought of the verses in Jeremiah about the tree and what they did with it, she quickly said I'm aware of Jeremiah, but this seems to stand out in my mind different than that.

She did want to associate this with Nimrod. Yet after searching my Bible, thinking about it, I feel she is mixed up, trying to put 2 things together that does not connect.

Thought I would ask about this on OB and see if any of you could come up with something on this.

quinkie, Its so easy to confuse what man has said thinking it came from the Bible, no doubt I have done that a few times.

Thank you both for the replies, its nice to have a place to post such stuff and have friends that can help you with such stuff as this.
