Why not "Matt the preacher," that might be scary out in the dark with an orange harvest moon shining!

This is going to be an interesting year for my family. It's the year I'm thankful Halloween falls on a Sunday because both morning and evening we'll be planted in church! My daughter is only 2 so in terms of celebrating Christmas and Halloween it was never a big thing anyway. My dad always sends gifts some labeled "Grampa" and some labeled "Santa." We did the same thing last year but we aren't rich and don't go out of the way to spend loads of money on gifts. She gets plenty of goodies throughout the year, plus Grampa sends enough stuff. My family makes a big deal out of those holidays, so this year will be interesting and I'm sure they will think me not allowing my child to do something is "so wrong!"

A few weeks ago I posted on my FB how thankful I was for Halloween being on a Sunday and how I spoke to the receptionist at my Dr office about how the world gets caught up in the evil holiday and the kids should be in church instead. A couple family members posted "Every kid needs to trick or treat!... I agree!" and such. A friend of mine went to a Message board we both were a part of (and I say were because I left that hateful place last week) and along with another friend posted a thread about what annoys you on FB. Along with how much they hate people who post religious stuff they blatantly said how 'someone they know' posted on FB about Halloween and they found it judgmental and pushy in terms of 'that person's' beliefs. That turned in to a back forth "Oh I know! And they also said..." as if I didn't frequent the board... She would like Halloween.. she got married last year on that day and had a Halloween themed reception.

My sister bought my daughter a giraffe costume that really is too adorable. I don't know when she will wear it :

Can anyone come up with anything biblical about teaching children to "Trick or Treat?"

Yesterday I saw a video a local "Baptist" church put together about a 'Trunk or Treat' event they are having at the church Sunday night. It's a rap song they filmed at a local Kroger spoofing rap videos. It was a 'clea' video but the concept was still not right. I'm not sure how that church would respond if asked that question

Thanks for the reply, I know there will be some that will try to make Halloween and Christianity connect, yet I think its impossible, yet I though some on here might give ways that some tries to do this and it would be interesting.

A local United Methodist Church for the past several years, not this year, has had what they call the 'Pumpkin Patch' for children on the church lawn. They took pictures of the children with the pumpkins, and sold pumpkins, doing this as what seemed a money raising event for the church. They encouraged the families to dress their children ins their Halloween costumes when coming to the event. The local United Methodist Church here in our town is very liberal in all their endeavors, more so than the SBC Churches in our area.

Someone mentioned that Halloween became a big thing in the 50's. I can remember that in the 50's our local school would have a Halloween Carnival each year. They stopped it before I became a teenager. I feel its purpose was two-fold, help keep children off the streets and make money for the school. I feel that caused many people to accept Halloween as A OK.

I wonder, How many children that are taught about 'Trick or Treating" by their parents later on in their teen years carry this to far doing mean things like egging a teachers house or even worse on Halloween.

I carried it in to my teen years but never did anything hateful/illegal. But there are a lot of people who do. People I went to school with and knew well were in to all of that stuff. My husband was quite the Halloween person. His mom is a witch and is in to all that Pagan junk. That was their holiday. I praise the Lord that I was able to intervene in his life and help lead him from that lifestyle and years later he was saved. His mom is still very much Pagan and in to witchcraft so I limit my association with her.
