In the founding of this country, how many of the founders do you believe where looking to the One true God of 'The Holy Bible' as they were drawing you our constitution?

We clearly know that all people who talk of God, are not talking to the God of the Bible, who had a Son born of a virgin.

That's an excellent question and one of the reasons I believe it's important to know the beliefs of our presidents. For some Christians their christianity is intertwined with an overt patriotism which professes that America is some special country that has had all these great, godly presidents and that somehow just in recent history has America began drifting away.

The truth is, the number of actual godly presidents have been very few. There have been some who did hold to biblical principles without necessarily being godly themselves, which was good, but they were few as well. There have been far more who either didn't care much at all about such matters, they used such only for their own political gain, or they upheld a couple of biblical aspects while ignoring the rest.

America didn't just start some moral decline in the 1950s; such began long, long ago.

In fact, if one looks to the beginning of America there were numerous differences with regards to both religion and how the government should be established and run. It actually wasn't very long after America dropped the "perpetual" Articles of Confederation and adopted the voluntary Constitution that two distinct groups began a contest for how the country would be run; the one group which insisted the country be run strictly according to the Constitution and the other which viewed the Constitution as being open to wide interpretation and believing they could even ignore such if they thought they had good reason in their own eyes. At the same time there was growing liberalism among many once biblical based churches in some areas while in others there was a growing determination to adhere to the Bible.

Too many presidents allowed this divide to continue without directly confronting it early on. Some even played it up for their own political gain at the expense of the nation and people. We ended up with decades of political fighting and actual states of war in some areas of the west. Because of all this ungodliness we eventually ended up in "civil war" and the end of any strict adherence to the Constitution and turning around and/or destruction of the Bill of Rights. This was followed by decades of corruption and rampant ungodliness which further eroded the nation.

Of course, none of this happened in a vacuum, the religious aspects of America were changed as well. Churches were divided. More unitarianism and humanism infiltrated many churches. Feminism and socialism were both on the rise as well as liberalization within many churches and denominations. It's very interesting and informing to read the sermons and writings of those pastors who held to Scripture in the late 1800s as they attempted to warn people of what was happening and what would come if such were allowed. Not enough people took heed and we see the results today with so much socialism, liberalism and radical feminism.

Teddy Roosevelt, while I admire the man, was one of the biggest proponents of pushing America into becoming an imperial nation; which directly led to America's involvement in at least two wars and it could be fleshed out to show it led to more.

Wilson and FDR both pursued this course, both got us involved in world wars. While all of this was going on the churches of America were following the liberal-socialist trends. Rather than preach Christ and Him crucified, many churches began yoking with the liberal political movements to "change society for the better". Rather than seeking to change hearts through Christ, they adopted the means of seeking to change society through government programs, laws and regulations.

We can still see the effects of this today with professing Christians feverishly working to change society through the Dems or Repubs rather than seeking to change the hearts of the lost through Christ.

And we are in a society, if the leaders, from the country sheriff to the president breaks the laws and it benefits them, then its OK, but if it benefits others, then its not OK.

The democrats wants to do things that rewards a certain group of people, the republicans wants to do things to reward another group of people, its not what is best for America, that went down the drain many years ago.

There was an evil government in place when Jesus walked this earth, its the same today and its headed south at a high rate of speed.

All true Jerry. We had a local experience of that. One of our town cops was heading home, says he fell asleep because he was so tired after working, and he crashed into a farm truck loaded with corn. The farm truck was knocked off the road onto its side spilling the corn. It seems the cop was not only sleeping, but driving too fast.

Not a single ticket was issued even though others who have wrecked in the area after saying they fell asleep at the wheel were ALL ticketed.

A "prominent" local attorney crashed his car into a power pole, after crossing the entire road, and it seems he had been drinking too. Not a single ticket issued.

And John, seems to me many Christians are putting trust in a man, for it seems they think, if we can just get so and so elected president them we will get this country turned around and headed in God's direction. When are they going to realize that will not work? Every 4 years they try this over and over again and again, occasionally getting their so and so elected and America actually is following the path God has laid out, waxing worse in even more sin.

In the end God is going to destroy it and all the works men have done, it is a lost and dying world, and there is only one hope.

Unfortunately you are right. One of the worst things to occur because of the success of the Religious Right (of which the Moral Majority was a major factor) in getting Ronald Reagan elected president is that politics really went to their heads. A large number of professing Christians basically put their faith in Reagan...then Newt and the Republican congress...then in Bush the Second...and even after the obvious failure of such to change what they want changed, today they are looking around for the next politician who will save them and America...who will it be?

Meanwhile, giving is down in many churches, giving to missionaries has drastically dropped over the past few decades, participation in church programs and activities is often dismal unless there are personal prizes or entertainment involved.

America needs Christ!
