This is a no-brainer -- real butter (sweet/unsalted). Margarine is poison.

...and that's fact, too. :thumb

If we carefully examine the manufacturing processes to make margarine and all other trans fats we will see plastics being formulated. This is why Crisco and margarine are both completely stable at room temperature. Even in the heat of summer those two ingredients will not go rancid when left out in the ambient air. There is an old rule of thumb from long ago that says that if the vermin and bugs won't eat it then we shouldn't either.

Not only that, but according to the Mediterranean diet we should stay away from all highly refined "whites", but instead use only wholesome and natural foods as they come from the earth. The highly refined whites::: White flour, white sugar, white bread, white rice, white .... You get the idea. :wink Margarine and Crisco as well as all other hydrogenated trans-fats are white when manufactured. Margarine is dyed yellow to look like butter :peek:

Two words: partially hydrogenated :lol

If the ingredient list contains those two words, the product has trans fats in it, never mind what the government-required nutritional information label says (the one that tells you how many calories and fat grams per serving, etc.) The FDA allows food producers to use a certain amount of trans fats and still legally call the product "trans-fat-free".

Just because it's legal doesn't make it right.

I don't know if it's still being sold now, but I used to love Brummel&Brown butter! I think it's made of yogurt or something, and there were/are different flavors. It's expensive tho, but it's such a treat!

I've seen Brummel & Brown spread in the stores recently. It's pretty good. But I think real butter tastes better. Has anyone seen one of these? It can keep a stick (1/2 cup) of softened butter fresh for several days on your countertop. All you have to do is place 1/3 cup of fresh cold water in the base and change it every 2-3 days (depending on the climate in your kitchen :lol ). The water creates an airtight/watertight seal. I bought the white one with the raised floral pattern, and I love it. I always have fresh softened butter for toast (or whatever else) whenever I want or need it. :smile
