Members dadof4 Posted January 15, 2008 Members Posted January 15, 2008 It just goes to show that when you pay something off (Jonathan's hospital bill was paid for yesterday finally), it usually breaks soon afterward. This morning, as I was getting ready to leave for work, I heard the familiar sound of vomiting from my boy's room. Sure enough, it was Jonathan. I guess his warranty expired, and now he is breaking down. I called my wife from work a couple of hours later, and Jonathan had thrown up a couple more times since the first time. Quote
Members dadof4 Posted January 15, 2008 Author Members Posted January 15, 2008 I just talked to my wife again. Jonathan threw up one more time. Elizabeth thinks maybe he picked something up at the indoor playground they went to yesterday. Who knows? Quote
Administrators HappyChristian Posted January 15, 2008 Administrators Posted January 15, 2008 Poor baby! Have prayed for him. Quote
Members bzmomo7 Posted January 15, 2008 Members Posted January 15, 2008 Have prayed for him as well. :pray Quote
Members dadof4 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Members Posted January 16, 2008 Well, I got home from work a little early today - Jonathan threw up 2 more times after I got home. The last time, there was a little bile in it as well. Poor baby just cried! But, good news - he was able to keep down a cracker soon after that. I gave him a bath, which he enjoyed a lot (he stunk like throw up and needed the bath), and he has been a little happier since then. Right now, he is in bed sleeping. I hope he is better now. Thanks for all of your prayers! Quote
Members John81 Posted January 16, 2008 Members Posted January 16, 2008 Praise God for the good news! I pray the Lord will grant a full, swift recovery. Quote
Members dadof4 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Members Posted January 16, 2008 Well, Jonathan went to be about 8:00 last night and slept pretty well until 4:30 when I heard that famaliar sound again. He threw up all over his bed again. My wife and I got him cleaned up and I held him for a few minutes when he started gagging again. I got the little bowl for him, and he threw up again - this time, just bile. Boy, did the little guy cry! :sad He knows what the bowl is for, and if he doesn't feel like throwing up, he does NOT want that bowl near him. I have to leave work early today to go watch him for an hour or so while Nathaniel goes to the public library to attend a free science class for homeschooled children grades 1-5. Pray for me! Pray for Jonathan. There is no fever along with this illness - any ideas? Quote
Members Anon Posted January 16, 2008 Members Posted January 16, 2008 Sounds like one of the nasty stomach bugs that goes around. Once he's done vomiting it will probably come out the "other end" for a few days before it subsides. Fun huh. Good that there is no fever, its always scary when they have a high fever and can't keep Tylenol down. Playplaces are a good place to catch viruses but that seems a little soon, more likely church or something, whereever you were 2-3 days ago...yeah Sunday probably, that's usually about the right timeframe. Hope he feels better soon! I always dread hearing that "familiar sound" in the middle of the night. :thumbdown Quote
Members dadof4 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Members Posted January 16, 2008 It's been coming out the "other end" already. Not much, but some. I had a virus like this 10 years ago, but much worse. Had to get an iv of fluids put in me. It just hurts me to see the little guy like this and him not able to understand why. Quote
Administrators HappyChristian Posted January 16, 2008 Administrators Posted January 16, 2008 Just keep trying to get liquids in him. I know he will throw them up for a while, but his body will quickly dehydrate if you don't get liquids in. Try things like popscicles. They go down a little slower than regular liquid, and the body can absorb it quicker then. Also - maybe try some ginger-ale...room temp, stir to get most of the fizz out. Just have him sip it a bit. If you have any ginger, maybe add just a wee bit. It's a good stomach calmer. Try to avoid solid foods for now. Chicken broth is good (sometimes I would stir in just a bit of instant potatoes - the result would still be liquid, but at least there was food going in for a while!). Liquids are the most important at this stage of the game. If the vomiting eases up, but the other doesn't, cooked carrots and white rice will help stop it really quickly. I know he's young, but maybe you could make up a story about bad germs fighting in his body with the good soldiers of his immune system...he might get a kick out of it, and it might take his mind off the uckies for a while. And of course, the good soldiers will win! :smile Quote
Members bzmomo7 Posted January 16, 2008 Members Posted January 16, 2008 Give him as much liquids and popsicles, pedialite, (my kids would do well with half grape pedialite/half 7-up mix.) They didn't like pedialite otherwise. I wouldn't give him anything with dairy in it until he's cleared up the symptoms for 12-24hrs. I don't know if you have any insurance, but if it continued into this afternoon, I'd consider taking him to a dr. When my 7-yr. old was a baby, he had a urinary tract infection and it caused flu symptoms that lasted longer than a day and a half......the dr. told me if I had not brought him in it could've caused damage. Another one of my sons had rotovirus a year or so ago.....it was a nasty bug that lingers--he ended up in the hosp. overnight for dehydration. You might want to look it up on-line for specific descriptions of symptoms of it--it is supposed to be quite common in young children. Will keep praying that your son gets better soon! It is soooo hard when you have little ones who are sick. Quote
Members Anon Posted January 16, 2008 Members Posted January 16, 2008 Yes it could be rotavirus....that can last around a week. If you can get popsicles and some pedialyte or gatorade down him that would be great...that way also he has something to vomit rather than bile. As long as he wets a diaper or two he should be okay.....and I think a dr told me that if a baby is dehydrated you can put your finger in his skin and a dip will remain for a few seconds where your finger was. Also (how old?) his fontanel will be sunken in.....I wouldn't panic but if he can't keep down any liquids for a whole day or is not wetting then you may have to get him checked out. Quote
Members dadof4 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Members Posted January 16, 2008 He is 1 1/2 years old. His diapers have been damp, but not full - if you know what I mean. His cracker stayed down yesterday - maybe when I go home I will see about the cracker again. Maybe a bath also, he just loves his baths! Quote
