Members qwerty guy Posted January 21, 2008 Members Posted January 21, 2008 Does greek or hebrew have more specific words then "son" ? Like, greek has 4 different words for love, from physical love to brotherly love... I don't have my strongs or I'd check it myself but maybe someone wants to do a word study? if not I can do it in 2 days. This is getting interesting....... Quote
Members Bakershalfdozen Posted January 21, 2008 Members Posted January 21, 2008 No, I already checked. The same word is used throughout the O.T. including the controversial passage in Job as well as another verse in Job that speaks of Arcturus and his sons - stars/constellations.Job 38:32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? !b ben, bane; from 01129; a son (as a builder of the family name), in the widest sense (of literal and figurative relationship, including grandson, subject, nation, quality or condition, etc., (like 01, 0251, etc.)):--+ afflicted, age, (Ahoh-) (Ammon-) (Hachmon-) (Lev-)ite, (anoint-)ed one, appointed to, (+) arrow, (Assyr-) (Babylon-) (Egypt-) (Grec-)ian, one born, bough, branch, breed, + (young) bullock, + (young) calf, Quote

Members Jerry Posted January 21, 2008 Members Posted January 21, 2008 There are several other OT words specifically translated as son(s) - though they are not used in the phrase "son of God": manown - Proverbs 29:21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length. niyn - Isaiah 14:22; Job 18:19; Genesis 21:23 bar - Da 5:22; 7:13; Ezr 5:1,2; 6:14; Da 3:25 bar (different form of the word) - Pr 31:2 (twice); Ps 2:12 yeled (sons) - Ge 32:22; Ru 1:5; 2Ki 4:1 yaliyd (sons) - 2Sa 21:16,18 There are also other words used for eldest son, firstborn son, son in law, etc. - but those don't fit what this thread is about. Members qwerty guy Posted January 21, 2008 Members Posted January 21, 2008 No worries as long as we keep on topic of what this tread is about...Specifically what kind of "sons" are referred to in the following verses? Sons of who? Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Why has God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts? This verse says "because ye are sons". If angels are sons, has God sent the Spirit of his Son into their hearts? Are they indwelled with the Holy Spirit? Gal 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. This verse says if you're a son, then you are an heir of God through Christ. If angels are sons, are they heirs of God through Christ? Quote
