It’s nice to be in the comfort zone before you follow Jesus. The problem is, if you have everything and are living in the comfort zone, you will not depend on Him for everything. This is why he says, give it away and follow me. ?

Matt.4

  1. [19] And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Matt.8

  1. [22] But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Matt.9

  1. [9] And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

Matt.16

  1. [24] Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Matt.19

  1. [21] Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Mark.2

  1. [14] And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

Mark.8

  1. [34] And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Mark.10

  1. [21] Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Luke.5

  1. [27] And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

Luke.9

  1. [23] And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
  2. [59] And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

Luke.18

  1. [22] Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

John.1

  1. [43] The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

John.10

  1. [27] My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

John.12

  1. [26] If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

John.13

  1. [36] Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst notfollow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.

John.21

  1. [19] This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

Acts.12

  1. [8] And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

TGL, you need to learn to take the direction of Jesus to one person to give away all that he had and to follow him and do so according to the context and content. Improper hermeneutical principles aren't a good thing from someone who says they're an evangelist or preacher. Jesus said this to the one person knowing that he would not do it, and did so to show that it's a very hard decision...many people have riches as their "god."  That being said, I know hundreds of wealthy and VERY wealthy people who serve God every day. Wealth in and of itself is not bad. It's the LOVE of money that is wrong. Let me add, God calls ALL Christians to follow him.

This was a good subject to bring up, though, Brother. ?

If I had a million dollars, I'd put a good fence around our property, buy the church property and build a permanent building.

That's nice, but remember the church will never be yours. Even if you paid for it.
