It seems our household stuff has come under attack.

About two months ago our microwave went bad. We replaced that.

Last month the clothes dryer went out. We replaced that.

The oven on our stove, that's only about 8 years old, has stopped working.

This morning we got up and our deep freeze has passed away.

Replacing the microwave and clothes dryer amounted to about a 700 dollar unexpected expense. Work has slowed while bills have increased (food and gas mostly) so I'm not sure what we can do about these problems.

While praying, please also pray none of our other appliances go out this year. Most of them are getting old but we really need them to last another year or two at least before we can replace them.

Don't you hate it when you need everything at once.

Yes it seems like everything is going up so fast...some weeks I feel like "Oh good we have plenty of money to spend this week" and within minutes its like "WHOA how did I just spend all that?!" Its like my brain hasn't caught up with the economy yet.

We've had to make alot of big purchases in the past few years too. It gets tiring spending all the time, it would be nice to just put money away!

I think everyone is feeling the crunch. My husband just splurged buying a nice hybrid (road/mountain) bicycle since so many things are close enough he can just ride here or there to save gas if we don't have to take the whole family.

I hear ya Suzy. We were expecting a better year in 2008. We had things lined up so we could do some much needed home repair but then gas prices shot through the roof followed by food prices.

With all that has happened, and all that seems ahead I'm certainly glad now that I decided to put off the home repairs because of the added expenses we've had already...made more by my wife having to have surgery on her elbow for a pinched nerve, plus needing to purchase the dryer and microwave, we would have really been in a bind otherwise.

I thank God what was to go for the home improvement has been able to help us get through this dark valley.

John,

I believe God wants us to pray point-blank specific. I hear some kids pray, "Dear God, please bless all the missionaries." In my mind's ear, I can hear God say, "Certainly. What would you like me to do???"

So then, with that in mind, I'm praying specifically for God to lead you to someone like myself. I fix stuff. My wife and I have been using the same appliances for many, many years because I keep repairing them. There are good friends I know who cannot do this, because it isn't their expertise. Their talents lie in other areas. We team up. They help me with what they are good at and I do the same for them.

I'm praying in a very similar vein for you and for someone to come into your acquaintenance with whom you can team up in this fashion.

To wit:::::::

***There are cheap microwaves on Craigslist if yours cannot be repaired,

***Your oven problem is most likely the bottom element. They run about 15 to 20 bucks. When/if food drips/falls/overflows onto it and is allowed to bake-on it will develop a hot-spot right there and could burn out in short order. This is why we always place a tin-foil or cookie-sheet splash-shield under whatever is baking at the time

***Your deep-freeze may be just the compressor, or as simple as a thermostat. Either way, it is repairable.

***The clothes dryer may be the thermostat, timer, drive belt, motor or an element. Either way none of those items are that expensive compared to a whole new unit.

If anything else happens, and we hope not, please give my e-mail a "ring", and hopefully we can take a "cyber-gander" at it.

:amen: we grew up with "use it up, wear it out, make do or do without"

praying for you and your family John

(in my family such "catastrophes" were usually accompanied by the news of a new baby on the way! :Bleh )

I appreciate the prays and words of wisdom.

I prayed and unplugged the deep freeze and plugged it back in and it began working again.

Our oven is a cooking stove/oven is natural gas with electronic ignition.

The people I used to know that were good at repairs and getting assistance from in matters like these are all dead now. :sad

I can fix just about anything with a wad of gum, a roll of duct tape and a butter knife!

Have you tried looking up home repairs online John? I learned how to fix a flowing toilet tank by using my search engine!

I just moved my almost new frigidaire electronic ignition gas oven and now the oven won't heat up. The stove top works fine. What's up?

Damaged...Defective and or Burned Out Glow Coil

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello and Welcome Paul to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliance forum.

It's a good possibility the glow coil got damaged during the moving. A weak coil is even more frail then a new one. Movement of almost any type can cause it to develope a hairline crack, which would cause it to fail to glow.

If the coil doesn't glow, check all the control panel selections and be sure they are set correctly.

If the coil does glow but the burner fails to light, it's possible but not likely, the burners isolation valve got turned off during the handling and moving.

The isolation alve may be located under the top burners cover or in the rear of the stove on or near the aluminum gas tube or appliance regulator valve, that supplies gas to the ovens burner.

Thanks for the advice. There's no control panel that I can see, and the element doesn't glow. It lit up the first time I turned the oven on a couple of days ago, but there's nothing there now. I suspect that it was weakened or cracked in transit and finally gave out.
Paul

PS I prayed about my washer and dryer situation (both are shot) and the Lord blessed me with a "new" set - the guys who work in the building next to where I work walked over and offered them for free to anyone who will move them! Now I am praying for a truck to move them with! :pray

Thank you Janet!

I tried looking up something online about our oven but only found one thing. That bit of information you posted contained the one thing I found, but also a whole lot more. I checked the one, now I will see if I can check this other out.

I'll pray somebody else comes alongside you with whom you can trade favors in this regard.

Thank you.

My close friends my age and younger have moved away and my older friends and relatives have passed away.
