Yes, a link between wild speculation and things in the Bible.

I am inclined by default to think that most books on prophecy are written for the money.

I don't think John L. Casey is a Christian.

His book is about the coming 20-30 years of supper cold weather due to 206 year sun spot cycle that has repeated for the last 1100 years.

Since we are told that there will be famines and earthquakes before Jesus comes, his book is very interesting.

Famines and earthquakes have always been around and was not a sign we were told to look for.

In the 60s and 70s we were warned of an impending Ice Age, then when figures didn't support their claims they switched to warning of Global Warming, but when the figures didn't support that hysteria they started warning about "Climate Change".

The simple fact is, they can barely predict the weather fairly accurately a day or two in advance; they have no way of accurately predicting what is or isn't coming way down the road.

Over just the course of my life I've heave warnings of impending wicked weather coming our way due to sun spots, planet alignments, solar winds, subtle changes in the tilt of the earth, along with all the other "scientific" and "prophetic" doom and gloom weather that would afflict us.

Christ didn't call us to try and predict his second coming; He called us to live for Him. When we were told to "watch and pray", that was an active instruction for living for Him and drawing ever closer to Him, not a call to look for signs.

John81,

Watch for the day of the Lord

1 Thessalonians 1-11

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Matthew 24:3-8

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows (Birth Pains).

The signs will come stronger and stronger and faster and faster as birth pains. The children of light will understand.

The watching we are called to do is in the form of continually being ready for His return. In other words, we are to be busy living for Him, not gazing at the heavens looking for signs.

When we look throughout history there have been many massive earthquakes, horrible famines, and the like. These are things that have always been and will continue to be right up to the end.

The one thing Christ clearly pointed to as something that would happen before His return is the Gospel being proclaimed to all peoples. That's a "sign" we probably won't be able to tell has occurred when it does.

Continual pointing to this or that contemporary event as signs of the end, while taking our eyes off the call of God, is part of what has made Christians look so flakey in the eyes of so many.

John81,

2 Peter 3:11-14

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Indeed, we are to be looking forward to the soon return of Christ which should prompt us to be diligent in spreading the Gospel and making disciples; not constantly looking for signs and trying to turn contemporary news stories into aspects of prophecy.

John81,

Why do you think God gave us the signs?

Throughout the NT we are told Christ could return at any time, His return is imminent. His return couldn't be imminent if there were signs preceeding  his return.

We were called to spread the Gospel and make disciples, not to look for signs.

John81,

The signs are for the day of the Lord not the rapture.

Are you going to be here for that?

I am seeing the signs of the coming of the day of the Lord but I expect to be raptured before the seals begin.
