We forgot to bring back the kid's library books until Saturday. They were way overdue. We owe a little more that $17 in late fees. I called the library and asked if we could get a reduction in the fines, and they reduced it by half.

Don't feel too bad...We've had library fines much larger than that over the years. I won't even tell you how much our largest one was. (Let's just say we had checked out a LOT of books, and then forgot about returning them before we left to go out of town for three weeks--and they had already been a week overdue even before we left!) Seventeen bucks is nothing compared to what I had to cough up for that time. I was so embarrassed that I avoided the library for several months...then I just bit the bullet and paid the fine. We've done better since then...
