PRIDE COMES BEFORE A FALL

By Paul Proctor

And it’s a long way down America

President OBama has officially declared June to be "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month” here in America – essentially a repeat of last year’s proclamation. In fact, both are published on the whitehouse.gov website.

This year’s declaration in part, reads as follows:

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2010 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon all Americans to OBserve this month by fighting prejudice and discrimination in their own lives and everywhere it exists.”

OK – that takes care of June, meaning we still have 11 other months in the year that have yet to be designated in the ongoing fight against “prejudice and discrimination.”

Since Judeo/Christian morality is OBviously out the window, here are some monthly proclamation possibilities we might consider for the rest of the year that should help uplift and encourage others who have also felt the sting of biblical bigotry:

• July: Fornicator, Adulterer and Pornographer Pride Month.
• August: Glutton, Alcoholic and Drug Addict Pride Month.
• September: OBscene, Vulgar and Profaner Pride Month.
• OctOBer: Liar, Duplicitous and Deceiver Pride Month.
• November: Hedonistic, Slothful and Coveter Pride Month.
• December: Gossiper, Backbiter and Busybody Pride Month.
• January: Vindictive, Revengeful and Retaliator Pride Month.
• February: Greedy, Materialistic and Money Lover Pride Month.
• March: Idolater, Devil Worshipper, and Heretic Pride Month.
• April: Selfish, Sadistic and Narcissist Pride Month.
• May: Contentious, Cruel and Complainer Pride Month.

I know, these suggested proclamations don’t really roll off the tongue, but then neither does “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.” Of course, I’ve really only scratched the surface here; and frankly, the above list is largely limited to things that aren’t really considered illegal or at least aren’t often enforced as such without the breaking of other laws. And, I’m sure that many reading this could make their own list of oppressed people who continue to suffer unfairly in our free society for their innate tendencies, personal preferences and chosen lifestyles.

So, whose set of morals and values should we follow to avoid violent confrontations and a breakdown of society where chaos and death rule the day – those of a few chosen men and women who make arbitrary laws and proclamations from our nation’s capitol? What makes their values and morals more sacred than yours or mine; and if mine were discarded for theirs or yours, would I not then be a victim of “prejudice and discrimination?”

Maybe we should take a vote on it and decide by consensus what is good and what is evil – in other words, follow the will of the majority – you know, a “democracy” (aka, “mOB rule”); but, then that wouldn’t be very fair to the minority would it, since they would then be the victims of “prejudice and discrimination” from the ruling majority.

Wow - with so much “diversity” to deal with these days, how can we as a nation even begin to accommodate everyone’s appetites, desires and inclinations in the interest of fairness and freedom – or can we – or should we?

It seems to me our appetites, desires and inclinations are the prOBlem here – not the solution – the very things that put us at odds with both God and man – the cause of tyranny, revolution and war – you know – all that stuff we increasingly see in the news these days.

And, to make matters worse, instead of being ashamed of our lusts, which is what the Bible calls such things, and repenting of them, it is proposed by political opportunists with cool demeanors and smooth words that we should take pride in them as if that will somehow enhance our lives and bring us good fortune instead of God’s Judgment.

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” – 1st John 2:16-17

Oh me, this; ""Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month” here in America."

In that other topic did we not say America welcomes them with open arms. One more thought, here in modern America, instead of our laws helping the honest law abiding citizens, they now help, are in favor of, the sinners and the law breakers.

No doubt, this United States started off with the right idea in favor of the honest law abiding citizens, but man quickly corrupted it.
