Kayla, I like gmail and the chat there as well. Have you ever looked at some of their other stuff? I am considering doing one of their sites for my Sunday school class. It would have a devo thought and stuff, announcements, Bible memory and things to consider for Sundays lesson but it would be open only to members of the class. I teach the teens, so I am thinking that this would be a way to be in the virtual world with them, but also a way I can avoid Fakebook and MySpace and the like. What do you think?

Are you thinking of making this internet devotion part of a requirement of your class, or just something that is "extra curricular"?

I deactivated my Facebook today...I was spending way too much time on there...well rest assured if you are reading this and you were my friend on FB then you can communicate with me via OB. Lord willing Brother Matt will get that MOBile OB up soon. That will be nice then I can be more active during the semester at college when I won't have internet at the dorm except my phone.

Good for you, Kayla. I deactivated mine, too. I wasn't spending too much time on it, but realized others were, and I wanted to get rid of it before it had the chance to hook me. The Lord has been convicting me too, of spending too much time on the internet in general. We all need to be careful.

Thanks for the encouragement I appreciate your kind words.

Really just extra curricular. I know they spend a considerable amount of time online and I'd like them to have a decent place to go and to stay connected to their church family in a more daily manner--especially those who only come Sun am.

That's good that it is extra-curricular. I could see how it may be greatly beneficial to some kids who need their efforts redirected to more appropriate material. Maybe you could offer your devotions/Bible memory and such in written form too, if you aren't already? I know there are other parents out there, like me, who really would like to keep their kids off the internet as much as possible, but still like the idea of having their kids enjoying the benefit of working through the same devotional as a class because it can be a great encouragement to them. Does that make sense?

May be off topic a bit but I heard this on the nightly news. This mother house was shot during the night, the bullet landed by her bed. With her daughter setting at her side, her daughter looked to be about 10-12, she said, "It was past 12 midnight, I had already gone to bed, but my daughter was still up playing on the internet, I'm glad the bullet did not hit her."

Wonder how many there be that do the same thing?

It seems that so many churches either give up completely, or water things down.

In our area, the water down is in full effect, unfortunately. We at our church do our best to stay true to the Word of God as it is written rather than how the recipients would like it to be written.

I'm working on the site as we speak and hope that God can use it to glorify His name. He is truly good and without Him I can do nothing. I pray that the teens will one day be adults who are on OB and holding forth the Word of Life in truth and serving Him in our church or around the world, as He sees fit.
