No question. I still smoked after I was saved until I learned (ironically from a person I was witnessing to) that it was a bad testimony. Then I learned about our body being the temple of the Holy Spirit. Since my salvation I have have learned a lot of things that I needed to get right. Thank God for grace. Spurgeon said that we all recognize the great grace it takes to save the worst sinner, but we discount the day by day grace it takes for us to live our Christian lives. Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

I am grateful for my children and grandchildren. When I know that they are active participants in good churches and practice their values in the home. 3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. We obeyed from the heart. Recognizing that you are a sinner is a prerequisite to salvation. Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Sanctification is a result of presenting your body a living sacrifice. I think we over complicate things sometimes.

I have given this thread in general and your post in particular a great deal of thought. How can we reconcile the love and hatred of God. The answer is in Christ. Colossians 2:8-9 … after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. If 1 John 4:8 is true, then God’s acts of judgment are also acts of His love. 1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In the life and sacrifice of Jesus, I see the love of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. In the humiliation and crucifixion of Christ, I see the severity of God’s justice. Romans 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And in the resurrection of Christ, I see hope and love. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Involuntary tithing by the local Church

How many Baptist churches do you attend? You seem to find big faults in a bunch of them. -
Estoy de acuerdo con todo lo que dijiste como cuestión de derecho, pero no has entendido el punto del hilo. ¿Cómo amamos al pecador y odiamos el pecado?

Well said. Maybe that's why Jesus said, John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Here is my personal problem. I know that God loves the sinner. He loves me and he loved me when I was a sinner. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Having said that I am having a hard time loving some of the sinners I meet. Example: I was listening to Unshackled on the radio one day. The story was about a guy who wasted all his money on alcohol and as a result his wife and daughter froze to death because they were evicted from their home. Later this guy gets saved. I hated that guy and was not happy. Now I pivot to Saul (later to become Paul) He was the worst of the worst. He persecuted the church, consented to the stoning of Stephen, and sent Christians to jail. He was everything I hate in a man. Then he got saved and became one of my heroes. So my flesh constantly fights to reconcile my anger and my knowledge that Christ loves us all.

Baptists from the reformation
Joe Chandler replied to MikeWatson1's topic in Church Related Discussions
My friend started 2 churches in Hungary. He said the Baptist Union there was very liberal and used the Hungarian version of the Good News for Modern man. They were affiliated and approved of by the government. I don't know if this Union is similar to the NZ Union or not. What is the connection to the Reformation mentioned in the title? Are these folks both Calvinist and Charismatic? -
Camino a seguir. Lo único que puedes hacer con un tipo así es burlarte de él. ? Full disclosure, I used a translator app. How good is the Spanish here?

There is no contradiction between science and the Bible. The real stupidity is evolution. Read the book The Genesis Flood: The Biblical Record and its Scientific implications by John C. Whitcomb and Henry M. Morris. You will get clear answers to every question I have heard here including dinosaurs, the age of the earth and the absolute stupidity of evolution as a theory. The authors also document the change of scientific thought through the centuries. Read it. Every tired moron knows all the questions used to confuse Christians; Where did Cain get his wife? ,What about dinosaurs?, Six literal days?, What about radio isotope dating? etc etc ad nauseum. You don't need to defend God. Instead question the ridiculous claims of evolutionists. They cannot explain coal. The geologic column is fake and exists nowhere but textbooks. The missing links are proven hoaxes. Organisms found in the deepest layers, supposedly the oldest layers, have been found alive today.

Men stopped being leaders...Women took over
Joe Chandler replied to heartstrings's topic in Biblical Issues
Proverbs 21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house. Proverbs 21:19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman. Show me a domineering woman and I'll show you confused children, They produce very aggressive or very effeminate boys and another generation of domineering girls. I have seen this in Christian families as well as lost families. Why the Bible doesn't correct this in the Christian family is beyond me. -
I watched all of those. I thought it was a real eye opener.

John 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. Hey TGL, I think that the expression "and when men have well drunk" may have confused you. It doesn't mean that they were drunk and there is no evidence that the governor of the feast was drunk when he said it. Hope that helps. English and Spanish don't always translate exactly.

That sounds like purgatory, which is also a false doctrine.

Do Baptist believe in the 10 Commandments
Joe Chandler replied to TheGloryLand's topic in Biblical Issues
Acts 10:14-15 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. Maybe Peter heard Jesus say this, Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. -
Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. Of course this is just my opinion.

I read a pastor's opinion on sins having families with some sins higher than others. Sounded odd until I read the whole thing. Example: You can be a liar without being an adulterer, but you cannot be an adulterer without being a liar, therefore adultery is a chief sin, because other sins always follow with it. All sin can be forgiven, but some sins are more damaging and depraved than others. Jude 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

The Westernization of Modern American Christianity
Joe Chandler replied to Josie's topic in General Chats
When I was in the Marine Corps, my hair had to be cut very short, I could not have a beard, my underwear had to be folded a certain way, my uniforms had to be pressed, and my cover (hat) had to be starched. Then I went to bible college and had to listen to students complain about the standards. Boo Hoo. As to America never being a Christian nation, I say bollocks. Our constitution was based on Deuteronomy, the Bible was our text book, the McGuffy reader was bible based. The 10 Commandments were freely displayed. Many of out founders claimed to be bible believers. Many. We had two great awakenings and many revivals. We were one of the first nations to abolish slavery at the cost of over 600,000 lives. Now we celebrate what God calls abomination, we are taught evolution instead of creation, and public nudity abounds. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” ― John Adams -
KJV and God preserving His Word
Joe Chandler replied to MikeWatson1's topic in Bible - KJV or Modern Version Discussion
No, the flaw is that the Greek and Hebrew behind the ASB etc. use a different text. That means that the manuscripts themselves are wrong. Do a search on the comparison of bible versions and see all the differences. There are many. It isn't the translations that cause this, it is the underlying manuscripts. That is why most of the new translations agree among themselves. I am trying to answer your concerns, but you can study this out for yourself. -
Do Baptist believe in the 10 Commandments
Joe Chandler replied to TheGloryLand's topic in Biblical Issues
I already did. 1Tim 4:4 For every creature of God is good etc. Are you saying that Christians need to conform to a certain diet? You added the "That was created to be received" part. The bible says, "and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:" -

Here is another verse. It has nothing to do with the council per se, but relevant to dietary laws. 1 Timothy 4:3-4 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
