  1. The church I grew up in in Pekin Illinois did this to one of the men who had been saved in their church and gone on to Bible college and pastored churches across the country. His dear wife died from brain cancer. He remarried two years later. Several years later, when the church pastor I grew up in retired because of a heart attack, the church started looking for a new pastor. This man came back and candidated for the pastorate, but, several of the newer deacons, some of them Bible college trained, thought they would try to translate that verse that way...the husband of one wife. They were more than proud to have him preach many times over the years after his Bible college days, but they didn't want to have him as their pastor because he had remarried a widow. He later became the president of Midwestern Theological Seminary in Michigan. I always had so much respect for this man as when he got saved he TRULY changed from a drunkard to a man of God. I could NEVER read that verse that way. And, you're right, LuAnne, far too many people try to impose Levitical law on people in the church today.
  2. My wife and I know several pastors who have been widowed in the past five years and have remarried. They are all in their 50s to early 70s. Two have married widowed women in their congregations and are doing very well. Four of them married women in their 30s, that have NEVER been married before, and two of them are having to take a hiatus to help their brides adjust to married life, not that there's any trouble. The church felt they were owed a little down time. They have some great people in their congregations. Five of these men have married women who were married years ago, divorced early in life, remarried, raised a family, and then were widowed. All of them are doing well. No problems. People need to let these men decide what they believe the Lord would have them to do instead of trying to be an armchair quarterback. I'm sure they know the Lord's leadings better than us.
  3. It's really hard to know if he knew in the beginning where they were being printed. I'm pretty sure that before his being their endorser that Lee Greenwood was having them printed. You really need to get out more, Eddie, and learn how the world works instead of throwing darts at everyone and then whining when you get called on it. As I stated before, and as have others, you really need to grow up.
  4. Yep! TGL needs to put a link to the NOAA website...I mean, we ALL know that government agencies are all so honest, as was Mr. Gore.
  5. And??? Does anyone really care where they were printed? Doubtful. SMH
  6. I agree. I've known many men who were divorced while in the ministry and lived by the biblical restrictions. Yet, they got to teach Sunday School, some became evangelists, and others writers. Same with many of the women in all but evangelists. They did speak at ladies conventions though.
  7. Unchecked pastoral power is a good place to start. Because of what happened with Hyles and others, many churches are going to a plurality of elders to try and combat this kind of thing. Still, Morris' church had this and still covered it up. As far as I know from friends who attended Gateway Church, Morris is still somewhat in denial, still referring to the victim who was at that time a child, as "a young 'lady.' Since Morris' departure a couple of other elders have left.
  8. Remember, an "alter call" isn't necessarily a sign of repentance or restoration to God. Many have accomplished these things sitting in their seats, taking a hike, or sitting on their own sofa. I know you already know that, but, it never hurts to be reminded. Far too much emphasis is put on the alter call. I will be praying for your daughter. We have a former foster son who claims to be saved but who shows very little interest in the things of God.
  9. I can empathize and sympathize with you. I'm not always able to be in service and watching over the net. I surely miss being there and go as often as the Lord allows me to be healthy enough to be there.
  10. You're not funny Eddie. I could NEVER be as negative as you. At least when I post something positive or negative it's well documented. I very seldom receive negative mail, and I certainly don't drink the MARXIST Kool Aid you often post. Try growing up.
  11. Yes, it certainly does. I always felt there was something off about Morris and Gateway. My 81 year old mother had listened to Morris for 20 years. I've told her time and again she needs to be careful about these on-air preachers. Far too many end their ministries in disgrace.
  12. Robert Morris, disgraced former pastor of the Gateway Church in Texas, and Gateway Church are facing lawsuits alleging misappropriation of funds to meet needs other than what they were designated for. This, to me, is just showing how many churches that cover sin start to crumble like a house of cards. The article below was found in my inbox this morning. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/gateway-church-pledges-to-join-ecfa-conduct-forensic-audit-after-lawsuit-alleges-financial-fraud/ar-AA1rVdFP?ocid=chromentpnews&pc=U526&cvid=8e0a6e3f99f24d7fb456175fceb9affd&ei=20
  13. Climate change? Get real. Weather goes in cycles as does the depths of the water along the shorelines. Trying to build a doctrine, ie, climate change, on data that's only been kept for 100 years or less is not feasible... that's why they've gone from "an ice age is coming" to "global warming" to what they're now calling "climate change." Stop drinking the liberal Kool Aid. The Lord IS in control of the weather, and there are things we can do to prepare for inclement and even destructive weather to minimize damage and death. And it's ALWAYS advisable to pray concerning these things.
  14. Sorry, too much background noise for this hearing impaired old coot. What little I COULD make out was nothing more than the SUPER militant, man-made rules and misuse of Scripture to fit ones own ideology. The Bible NOWHERE STATES that long hair on a man is wrong. Paul begs the question about nature and it's teaching. Who makes the decision on what is long or short. It becomes relative to whoever is answering. Then he starts and goes into a rant on women's use of makeup. This is the same type of dung that I grew up with and battered with from the day my mother got saved in 1971, until I left the IFB churches in 2000. I preached these same things until I knew they were indefensible. Man-made standards not clearly defined by Scripture AS being Scripture is reprehensible. That may not be a popular opinion stand here, but, as my grandfather used to say, "Tough Noogies !"
  15. We decided on something different. We were at Walmart and stopped in at the Subway there. We got a Club and The Boss. We ate the Boss this afternoon and are saving the Club until tomorrow noon. We had a coupon, thank the Lord.
  16. Glad you admit it.
  17. Better go back and read your statements several posts back...YOU referred to the time between the burial and resurrection....It's posted below. Members 291 Location: US Type: Non-Denominational Author Members Posted Monday at 11:52 AM But at least the time between the Messiah's death and His resurrection.
  18. You're fixated on the time of the burial and resurrection and that was your point. Don't be so intentionally obtuse.
  19. They're being attacked again by Iran. Hundreds of missiles are being launched towards Tel Aviv and other sites. Iran has threatened the use of a ballistic missile soon. It's a little after 12 noon central time.
  20. This isn't a part of the discussion. Seems you're jumping from thread to thread to press a point that isn't.
  21. You're stating the obvious. It very much matters who wins this election. Though Trump is a self-absorbed narcissist, he is FAR BETTER than the current Socialist, MARXIST Democrat we find in Kamala Harris. Many preachers are talking about politics and political positions because they are IMPORTANT! We know they're not the primary issue as GOD is in control and already knows what is going on. But, try to remember that we have not only the right and privilege in this country to help choose our representatives and leaders, but we have the OBLIGATION as Christians and AMBASSADORS of the Lord Jesus Christ and Heaven, to ALWAYS be showing Christ and Biblical ways God has designed for us to live. Regarding pastors telling people how they should "manage their finances in troubled times," the pastor does have the OBLIGATION to preach the whole counsel of God,. This would include Biblical principles on money. Yet, you have to remember that most pastors are ill equipped when it comes to giving financial advice as far as investing, saving, and everyday purchases. Again, most pastors are ill equipped to teach such things, yet CAN bring in those in the church that ARE financial advisors or have had success with Biblical principles on money.
  22. Don't know why they would if none have so far.
  23. My brother and sister in law live in Riverview FL, as are my niece and her husband. I talked to my brother this morning and he said the storm surge was really bad but that they are okay. My sister in Augusta Georgia called at 3AM and said they had sustained winds of 65 mph with gusts up to 95 mph. The power is out. My BIL is using his Police radio to keep track of what's going on. They had to have a lady my sister takes care of in their home as she was very fearful. A lot of damage in their area. We've had some flooding here. Please keep us in your prayers. Thank you BT
  24. A realtor friend of mine was just given a diagnosis of terminal cancer. They've given him six months to a year to live. He's saved and is active in several different forms of ministry as he's able. He's just 3 days older than I am. We're both associated with the Cowboy Church movement. His son Harley was the one that I had requested prayer for last year after he was shot 5 times. This has come as a shock to many of us, and has probably hit a little closer to home for me as I have been given from 5-7 years because of my lungs. Please pray for Steve that he'll continue serving the Lord and not become discouraged. Thank you BT
