A tornado went through our town last night. You may have heard about it on the news, maybe not.

About 7:30, my hubby, son and I were in my office. It's on the second floor of the mansion where I work. Minutes before 7:30 I looked outside to see if it was raining (it had thundered a while back). It was. Just a regular rainy evening.

Then, without warning, it sounded like something was hitting the west window and the one right behind me. My hubby said maybe it was hail, but it got louder and stronger. To me it sounded like those straps in a car wash hitting the car!!! My son opened the shutter on the west window and he and hubby both looked out. My husband immediately said, "Down in the basement, now!" We went down to the main floor (carefully because lights were going on and off by this time). The air outside was green. Hubby was first, and my son brought up the rear. By the time we got to the main floor, it was calm around us - but still greenish outside.

Josh went outside and saw the swirling clouds over to the northeast of us by this time - a man made a comment that it looked like it was over Brown street. We learned this morning that an 8 unit apartment complex on Brown street was totally destroyed.

They walked around the museum. The two trees right outside my window were snapped in half. Directly to the west of the museum is a fence for the middle school practice field. Large trees line the fence. Everyone of them was snapped.

The middle school is next to the museum. The roof of the gymnasium was torn off. Trees were uprooted all over town, blocking roads. Roofs were torn off part of the resale shop and the length of the old lumber company.

The public playground next to the school was littered with trees. Praise the Lord that it was raining beforehand - no one was on the playground!

My hubby sent our son home to check damages. But our cells weren't working - go figure! By the time we heard from him, we were on the road trying to get home. Now, we live about 2 minutes from the museum. But it took us over half an hour to get home. We had to drive north, and then east. Turn to drive south, and then go west. Finally we hit the the main road near us and the gawkers were gone: because there was NO damage!!!

There wasn't even a leaf in our yard (or the yards around us)!!!!! We were amazed. The trees that we have in our yard have lost huge branches lately, just dropping. The tree guy said it was due to lack of water - branches get horizontal when that happens, and then they fall. Well, several of our branches are horizontal, so we were expecting a mess. Nothing!

I just wanted to praise God for His goodness. There were no injuries, even with roofs being taken off and that apt. complex being destroyed. God is good.

I'd like to thank the Lord for His protection and goodness too! Glad you all are safe and that your house wasn't touched. That sounds really wild; tornadoes always do something unexpected, don't they?

Do you mind if we share tornado stories in this thread? I'm sure some of us have seen interesting things happen.

That would be great! I was talking to my mom this morning and we talked about the tornado that went through our valley when we lived in WV.

We had a farm that was just over 100 acres. There was a neighbor about 1/4 mile one way, and a mile the next.

We were outside - my dad and sister in the garden, when it started raining. Then it REALLY began to rain, and my dad hollered at us (he had to - it was LOUD rain!) to get inside. Then he told us it was a tornado. Yikes.

It hit the field behind us and uprooted a tree and tore off the pigpen roof. Then it came to the front of the house (don't ask me how it did that!) and uprooted a tree right near our front door.

It traveled on about a 1/4 mile and uprooted a tree, trunk and all. The tree fell across the road, cutting off any travel that way. It was on HUGE treee. By the time it got to our neighbor's house a mile away, it was over!

My mom drove home, not knowing about the tree. She had to park our truck and climb over it to get home.

That was something else!

Turns out the tornado the other night was an EF2. There was pretty extensive damage to some homes as well. Pictures are coming out more and more. It is really indeed a miracle that no one was seriously hurt!
