What is your method for peeling boiled eggs?

I use a wet spoon to crack the shell and then slide the tip of the spoon under the shell and lift it off. It works well most of the time but once in awhile there is a pesky egg that just won't peel correctly and you end up with something rather odd looking.

I do mine under running water - crack all of the shell first, and start peeling from the large end - there is usually an air space there that lets you get the membrane as well.

be sure to put 1 tsp of salt in the water when boiling...that makes the shell come off soo easily. Then i run it them under cool water and shake them in the pan gently. tap the egg on the counter and the shell basically falls right off. :)

Hmm! I'll have to try that sometime. I love hard-cooked eggs but I always have such a "hard" time getting the shells off! Thanks for the tip! :thumb

That is what I do.... works like a charm!

Not to hijack the thread..... what do you put in your egg salad? How do you make it?

We find that eggs that are very fresh are extremely "tight" with the shells. A little salt (as mentioned earlier will help some) but still the eggs should be at least 3 to 4 days old.

We boil in salt water and then cool with cold water. I.E. Because the egg is rather massive compared to the little bit of water they are in they will keep on cooking even after the hot water has been dumped out (onto knoxious weeds in the driveway. ). This is why we refill the kettle with cold water.

Chopped celery, chopped onion, mayonnaise (or M. whip :lol ), a little mustard, salt and pepper to taste. Oh, don't forget the crushed hard-boiled eggs. :peek: :cool

Anyone here beside me like soft boiled eggs?

I loooooooooooooooooove eggs, anyway at all, except raw and straight-up. I.E. as a coworker of mine used to do. He managed a laying operation and every morning he would go out to the hen-house with a glass and get six fresh eggs. He would crack them into the glass, stir 'em up and drink 'em down. :gross: :gross: :gross: :gross: :gross: :gross: Noooooooooooooo thank you.

It's possible to catch salmonella from eating raw eggs. But I have tried it times and it's not bad. I put a little soy sauce, mix it up, and drink it!

I can consume raw egg whites, if they're mixed up into a smoothie, but that's it. When I was growing up my mom would sometimes make me a breakfast shake and crack a whole raw egg into it -- but it also had milk and other stuff (sometimes chocolate syrup and peanut butter) in it so I couldn't taste the egg. I never once got salmonella.
