DOS Program

I'm trying to run an old DOS program that I have and like (none of the windows programs do everything as easily as this one does) on Windows Vista. Every time I try to open it, I get an error that says "This system does not support full screen mode." I googled it, and everything said to try DOSBox. I downloaded that program, and now I don't get the error, but everytime I try to open the program it locks up.

Any suggestions on anything else I can try?

Don't know if this will help or not; I don't have Vista, and don't plan to upgrade in the near future. Following steps might be different in Vista.

Create a shortcut to the program. Right-click on the program, and select Properties. Should be 3 tabs at top of new window; select Compatibility (if available). In XP, it doesn't give an option for DOS, but it does give an option for Win95, which should be DOS-compatible.

I'm pessimistic, but it's worth a try.

BTW: What program?

Here's another alternative to DOSBox, runs in a web browser using Java: http://www.physics.ox.ac.uk/jpc/Demo.html

Other than that, all I can tell you is to check the internet for similar DOSBox problems.

Your situation is similar to using radios with vacuum tubes as opposed to transistors: At some point, you have to switch because they don't make the parts any more.

Because of the lackluster reception Vista has gotten, a few manufacturers are offering XP instead of Vista on new machines. Dell is one, HP (I think) is the other, although HP may only be doing it for their corporate customers.
