Add 1 cup (at least :lol ) of sugar to a gallon of tea while it is still hot, and then add the handfull of lemons while it is still hot. Add some ice cubes and let it cool in the fridge for a while and you'll have a nice batch of Southern sweet tea. :thumb

Once you have had the REAL ICED TEA, nothing else will do! It is the same thing with fresh hot biscuits!

I now drink it without shoogah' date=',,,, same with Coffee, if I was 40 I would still use sugar.[/quote']

Real southern sweet tea can be used as a substitute for syrup if your eating pancakes or waffles and find you've run out. :haha

My friend uses 2 heaping cups of sugar per gallon of tea. Needless to say, his wife doesn't let him make it very often.

I do not use that much sugar in my tea - a half of a cup of superfine granulated sugar per gallon is more than plenty for me! The superfine dissolves better. I like tea better than soda pop because it does not have all of the salt in it either like soda pop does, and if you do not go overboard with the sugar it has a lot fewer calories than soda pop.

I personally don't use as much sugar as some in my tea, either. I like the sweet, lemony flavor of real tea, though.

People are using just enough sugar now instead of using as much as will super-saturate, mainly for health reasons, but it used to be common for sweet tea to be REALLY sweet. :coffee

Do you make raisin muffins too?

You mean like these?

Hardee's Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits

4 cups self-rising flour
3/4 cup shortening - that's Crisco
1-1 1/2 cups milk or buttermilk (*see note below)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup granulated sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup raisins

Mix flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and sugar. Blend in shortening with a fork until mixture is fine. Add milk and stir until just mixed. Add raisins and mix. Add cinnamon and mix until swirled through batter. Do not mix batter any more than you have to. Spread batter onto well floured surface. Flour top and pat down with hands until 1/2 inch thick. Cut with 2-inch cutter and place on greased baking pan. Bake at 400 degrees F for 10-15 minutes Until golden brown. Frost with powdered sugar icing.
Makes about 24 biscuits.

*Note: I suggest you start with one cup of milk, add more milk, if needed.
