I might plant a garden if my back improves in time! My ladder broke in two, and I fell against an oil tank! That hurts! Ouch! I enjoy gardening, running, bicycling, and weight lifting. Until my back gets better, i had to forgo running for the short duration! i love gardening, and my garden will be in a different location this year because of troublesome weeds!

Re. your weeds. Have you considered the benefits of mulching thick (wall-to-wall style. i.e. complete coverage)???

We use sheep they pretty much sterilize the ground of anything green they rip it out by the roots and eat everything in site if you let them and they provide fertilizer at the same time. We put them in the garden area in late fall and we will take them out and put them back in the pasture in a week or so when my wife plants the potatoes. About the only weeds she deals with is the ones that come in as spores in early summer, so not much weeding goes on in her garden.

Thats a great idea, CP. :thumb :clap:

At home growing up we used our pigs for this chore. After the garden produce was completely out and harvested, we'd put an electric fence around the entire garden with white strips of cloth on the bottom strand. Then when the fence is up we let the pigs in. They would root out every single corn-root, weed-plant and anything else. Their rooting and nosing up the entire garden guaranteed that not a single plant stalk could winter-over and offer a nesting place for cut-worms or other noxious pests. After the pigs had done their work in the garden in late November it was off to the butchers with them. Finally, the electric fence was taken down.
