They can either deflect the questions, give meaningless answers, say something politically correct, or something to that effect.

The Party leadership has been busy trying to recruit those who are more liberal or don't care about "social issues" while attempting to either convince those who do hold a non-PC position to turn silent or push them aside.

They can dodge the question by saying it's for the states to decide, or the people to determine. They can say they aren't going to Washington to deal with bedroom issues, but bankbook issues. There are several dodges available.

Pay attention to some of the interviews with several name Republicans over the past several months and you will see them dodging the issue or giving support for the idea of dropping "social issues" and only contending for matters of economics and foreign policy.

Would you support someone going around saying, let the states decide all the time? Then, what do we need you for.

That's the point. They want to target other voters. In their mind, where else do Christians or conservatives have to go? Either they will vote for the Republican anyway, like most have for several decades now, or they will do something else but they won't vote Democrat so the Republicans don't care.

The size of the Christian voting bloc has dropped. Meanwhile, the number of voters falling into the "moderate" or "independent" categories have grown largely. Many who call themselves "moderate" or "independent" fall into the "socially liberal, economically conservative" category and it's these the Republican leadership wants to shift towards.

More Republicans and self-proclaimed conservatives on Fox News today sounding off against those who speak in any way but acceptance of homosexuals/homosexuality.
