From the "Paycheck" thread.

Sorry Calvary, but in Romans 15 Paul is not asking for money. He is trusting that he will be supported, but he is not asking.

And notice he did not go to the Romans assembly asking for money. Another point of interest is that Paul never made it to Spain.

I once had a pastor who insisted that Paul was released from prison, went to Spain and possibly Britain, then was imprisoned again. Is there any evidence for this? I have never seen any. Edited by Invicta

I've heard that too but, I think they lack Biblical proof. Maybe from some other source such as Josephus?

It certainly wouldn't be Josephus who was a jewish historian and not at all interested in the early church. In the book of romans of course Paul does say that he intends to go to spain but we don't know for sure if that ended up happening or not.

I've read much about this over the years and there seems to be no actual proof Paul ever went to Spain or Britain. The idea that Paul actually went to one or both of these countries seems to have come about later and has been passed down as tradition by some.

If we go strictly by Scripture, there is no evidence Paul ever made it to Spain.

My question would be, Why do some think it important that Paul went to Spain or not? Would it prove any assertions that would further a doctrine be it false or true?

God bless,

To an extent, for some. There are those who base their theories upon Paul or one of the other Apostles having visited a nation and thus making them special in one way or another. I've heard this from those who follow British Israelism, the American counterpart, some Irish thing, etc.

Overall however, if it were truly important to know, God would have revealed it to us.

The important part of Paul's ministry for western gentiles is he went west with the Gospel. He went as far as God intended for him to go (Italy). The result is we aren't looking at Christianity as just another "Eastern Religion." We are Christians by the grace of God through the Gospel preached in the west by God's servant Paul.

Edit to add: Paul is going to have a lot of rewards to present to Jesus.
