Members JerryNumbers
Jonesboro Church Wars, Encyclopedia of Arkansas History In the 1930 two fractions of Baptist had much trouble, & it seemed to have turned into war. Never heard of such. I come across this this evening after getting back from visiting a sick woman in the hospital at hot Spring, about 70 or so miles from my home. Members no name joe
I can tell you without a doubt that that story holds at least some truth. I actually lived in Jonesboro for 6 years and attended First Baptist. I thought someone made that story up until I visited an elderly person in our community who confirmed the truth of it. I didn't know all of these details, but a sketchy version of this story...it also involved the Jeffers character having an affair with someone, and that is what caused the rift. I had heard there was a gun fight involved. Crazy stuff there. Edited March 1, 2012 by kindofblue1977
Members heartstrings
Looks like the Jeffers fellow was just a typical con man and not a real preacher of the Gospel. Edited March 1, 2012 by heartstrings
