iPhone or Android?

Want to buy my hub a surprise smartphone for Christmas.... was leaning towards an iPhone 4s but guy at Verizon trying to talk me into Android, says the 4G speeds are better. Seems like iPhone is slightly more user friendly but Android (I am specifically looking at Samsung) has faster speeds and more modern, with Google os....

What do you think?

I can't speak for either really but I have an iTouch which is the iPhone minus the phone. I love the apps for its and many are free. There is a lot of nice Bible software as well for free. It is a great device. I don't really have experience with the Android so I can't compare.

I have Iphone I love it. Hubby had android and had issues with it. Both of them had apps that are really great. Andriod does have more free apps I was told.

Here is the deal. Both or great, but you do have ton more options with Android. iPhones are great, but you are limited to just to just one kind of phone. Android is open source software that any phon- make can use, so you have lots of different manufactures making phones using the android. If you wanted a bigger screen with an iPhone you are stuck, but you can get the android software in just about any size you want with all the features that you want. You can even now find prepaid phones made for Android, so you can even say goodbye to those 2 year contracts with Android.

When I'm looking for a phone, I looked at the iPhone, but it was only one phone (Granted, it is a good phone), with Android I got to choose among hundreds of different phones to choose my needs. They range in price too.

As far as apps go, they can all do the same thing.

Matt (or anyone)...I saw Samsung is putting out the new Galaxy Nexus Prime possibly the end of November....if I were to try to wait for that (we have Verizon and rumor has it Verizon will offer it first)....would it be very difficult to get by Christmas? And will Verizon offer the "new upgrade" price on it? (The regular price for preorder right now is over $600....) My laptop is Samsung and I love Samsung and Google so that would be my first choice from what I read online....however I wasn't sure I liked the current Android phones Verizon had in the store, they seem like they'd be quickly outdated..... so would probably pick the iPhone if I can't get the Nexus Prime....

I hear iPhone has great battery life...but that 4G is tons faster....I dunno.

I should add that there is a "computer genius" guy in our church who just got the new iPhone and my husband was impressed by it so I was thinking, initially, for gift purposes the iPhone might be good...plus after a little more looking, seems like the Nexus will end up being $299 as opposed to the iPhone's $199...and I do not think my husband is going to really need to go all out using every little function of it....hmmm.

Plus I like the idea of Siri.....

Know what my biggest beef is about the iPhone. No SD card so if you go with the iPhone, get the larger size. I really think your husband would not mind either iPhone or Android.

Also, a 3.5-inch screen is too small for me, Gmail and Google Voice intergrate smoother for me on android, and I like the keyboard on the Android better. Also, I can customize my phone without breaking my warranty. Of course, most of these reasons is because my phone is not just my phone, but my life. :)

Okay well the larger size iPhone is the same price as the Samsung Nexus....so...I guess I may wait to see if that comes out. I didn't know if he would want a bigger screen because of taking up more room in the pocket. Hm.

Does anyone know if it is very difficult to get a phone just weeks after it comes out? If they release it the last week of November, would I have any chance (barring a tent outside) to get it by Christmas?

I do think that's silly that they don't have an SD card on iPhone...on the other hand, I can't see him needing to store a whole lot on there, since he's never even had a smartphone before...I imagine he'll use it mostly for email and internet.

I have a Samsung Gallaxy and I love it. It is fast does everything, awesome camera etc. The rest of my family, Dad, sisters nephews have iphone 4 and mine outstrips them by a mile.

Just my opinion.

I just found out Verizon does not carry the Samsung Galaxy...although they will carry the Nexus later in the year but it will be expensive. After talking to more FB friends I'm leaning towards my original idea of the iPhone. Unless the Nexus comes out by the first week in December (when I plan to buy, because our billing cycle ends Dec 2 and I gotta try to squeak this past him as he pays the bills) and they can talk me into it...I dunno. I do not necessarily think my husband will need or even use $100 extra of a fancy phone...the iPhone is going to be miles above what we use now.

Oh and no, my husband never comes on here...actually, only two people I know in person (three, I guess, Bro Matt, PastorJ, and HappyChristian) are on here so if I ever want to ask something semi-private that I can't say on FB, I come here! haha.

The galaxy is about $300 cheaper here than the iphone. I thought Bro Matt was your husband. I don't know why. Sorry about that. That's why I was so confused. I thought he was being funny in his post. Well whatever you decide I'm sure your husband will love it and your efforts to get the right one for him. I've all but done my christmas shopping. As usual I only have my husbands to go and I have no idea what to get him. He's a gismo man but has nearly all the gismos to be had. I know he wants the samsung equivalent to the ipad but they are not allowed to sell it in Australia at the moment. Hmmmm back to thinking I go.....

Oooops sorry about that. My husband wont do either. He works long hours and doesn't like wasting what time he has on conversing with others. A bit of a loner he is.
