I came across this wonderful poem and posted it to my blog, but I also wanted to share it here. There is much wisdom in these verses!

O Modesty, where is thy blush, we may ask,
O Nakedness, where is thy shame?
Fast slipping away from the people of God
Till some are mere Christians in name.

O Modesty, thou art a virtue quite rare,
A most treasured gem of each saint.
But where are the women aglow with God's love,
With courage to be labeled quaint?

The world treats unkindly who will not conform
To rules that Fashion declares.
For any who dare to step out from the crowd
Will notice the whispers and stares.

Yes, Fashion is cruel, she has her designs,
For she is the foe of the Lord.
She violates principles God has laid down
In counsel quite clear in His Word.

The daughter of Fashion must pamper her pride,
For meekness would make her too plain.
So vanity leads to all manner of show,
And Modesty's held in disdain.

As Modesty flees, and the goddess now reigns,
Discernment and conscience both sleep.
The church and the world now appear as if one--
How God's holy angels must weep!

O Modesty, waken the people of God
And let us recapture thy grace!
Adorn us with purity, meekness and love--
Prepare us to look on His face!

Yes, we need some godly modesty in the world today and needed it yesterday.

funny you should post this, it happens to be one of my pet peeves. As Christians, we believe in modesty, but only so far in my circles. The Valentine banquet, for instance (which we have quit participating in long ago) reveals a lot. it is supposed that every couple there is married, but some things are better left unsaid or done nonetheless. Joking about intimate things is never appropriate even among married couples.

And separate sessions in seminars? We avoid them too. Heard too many preachers teach of things that they ought not teach.

A beautiful poem filled with wisdom!

Indeed, modesty is sorely lacking today, even among Christians. Even among many Christians who dress modestly for church, outside the church their attire is as immodest as the worlds.

Feminism has usurped Scripture in this area and so many Christian women proclaim loudly they can dress however they want and if anyone doesn't like it, if anyone lusts after them, that's THEIR problem. Yet Scripture says offenses must come, but woe to them who bring them! We are also commanded to consider others above ourselves. We are to be willing to put aside our preferences for the sake of others; including the male teens whose hormones cause his eyes to quickly notice immodestly dressed women (even if he doesn't want to), and the married man who once slept around before he came to Christ and now battles temptations when he sees immodestly dressed women, and the man fighting to overcome porn, those who have made a covenant with their eyes not to look upon such, and every other man who can only be harmed, never helped, by seeing an immodestly dressed woman.

Not to mention the effects immodestly dressed women have upon other women, who don't want their husbands, sons or daughters seeing such.

Years ago we attended a church that began having "casual Sunday night" services. It wasn't too bad at first but it didn't take long before casual came to mean just about anything goes; including guys and gals attending services in cut off blue jeans (way short!), tank tops and flip-flops. Those who expressed concern over this were cast as being the ones with a problem. We stopped attending the "casual" service and eventually found a new church home.
