Well, it was not the way I planned, but I had a date with my wife on Friday. My brother and sister-in-law said that they would watch our kids so my wife and I could go out for a night. We were headed to a college Christmas concert, and were planning on having a nice little dinner before we saw the concert. At quitting time, I locked up the store, went to my van and started it up. I dropped my gloves outside of the van, and while I jumped out to get them, I locked the door to the van and shut the door - with the van running. That's ok, I thought, there is a spare key in the store . . . which is locked up. I went to the business next to ours and used their phone to call Elizabeth and let her know what just happened. Then I called my boss to ask him what to do. He was too far away, and had plans for that night, so he could not come and help me. He told me to get a screw driver and try to pry the back door open (it doesn't close very well, sometimes). Well, I was not able to open the door, but I was able to move it enough that I tripped the alarm system. "Oh well," I thought, "at least the police will be here soon. Maybe they can get my van door open for me." For some reason, they never did come.

I returned the screw driver and called Elizabeth and my boss to let them know what was happening. My boss called Elizabeth and asked her to drive to him and get his spare key for my van and the store. She threw together some change of clothes for each of us, and took off to get the keys. While I was standing outside, it started to snow. Not just flurries, oh no, LOTS of snow! By this time, the last person from the business, whose phone I was using, had gone home for the night. Thankfully, another nearby business was still open, and let me stand inside their entry way waiting for Elizabeth. She got there, and we got the keys out of my van (which had been running for 1 1/2 hours now), went into the store, changed, and left for the concert. We did stop and get a bite to eat, but it was not what I had planned.

Interestingly enough, that will probably be one of your most memorable dates ever. Thanks for sharing a part of how God has blessed you with us. I say that because His allowing you to have that story is a true blessing and a picture of how struggles in our lives and in our marriages can be victories and not losses. God bless you and your family.
