1 Thessalonians 5:18

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Answers these questions:
In what? “Everything”
Do what? “Give thanks”
Why? It is the “Will of God”
In Whom” “Christ Jesus”
For who? “Concerning You”

In everything:
Every condition;
Every circumstance;
Every blessing.

We Praise the Lord with our lips;
We Glorify Him in our life;
and we honor Him in our heart.

In order to fulfill this verse, we must also give thanks all the time.
Everywhere we go;
In everything we do;
All the time;

All that comes our way, we are to thank God for. It may be His will that we experienced it.
“This:” –the thing that we are giving thanks for, whether good or bad; the blessing or the trial;
“This” --the will of God that we give thanks in all things. Just the giving of thanks shows a heart of gratitude, which is well pleasing unto the Lord.

The word “this” can refer to the things that come our way (See Psa. 37:23); or to the giving of thanks; I believe that both ways are right.

It is “concerning us”; i.e. it concerns us. It is to our best interest;
Any time we are in the Lord’s will, it is beneficial to us.

Finally, it is “In Christ Jesus” that we “live, and move, and have our being;” (Acts 17:28) It is in Him that we are to give thanks.
Christians especially ought to give thanks in all things, for we are “in Christ”, and blessed in Him.

Oh brother, now people get very upset when you telling them they're suppose to give thanks for both good and bad happenings!

Actually, Romans 8:28 goes along with that:

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Even the "bad" things work out for our good! Praise the Lord!
It's easier to give thanks for/in everything when we realize this.
