This is a long, but interesting article on China's reform generation. The author, Peter Hessler, wrote an excellent book, River Town, describing his experiences when he taught at a university in China. I chuckled when I read a response to Hessler's asking his former students if they thought a multiparty political system was a good idea. Here is a quote from one student. That year, I also asked respondents if they believed that China should become a multiparty democracy, and only about a quarter said yes. A number of them said that China’s system has been successful. For others, though, the reasons were more cynical. “We already have one corrupt party,” one man …

Just the quote, interpretation should be left to the hearer...no arguing please. The crucible of adversity is a less severe trial to the Christian than the refining pot of prosperity. Morning by Morning, February 10, H.A. Spurgeon

Michael is doing a great work through his faith in Jesus Christ. I know him well. Michael's Presentation. Facebook. Well worth consideration if you're looking for a missionary to support. We need a missionary topic category. I'm sure we all have missionaries and even personal missionary work, that would encourage us all.

It’s okay to party and have a good time, enjoy life, enjoy everything that is good. Don’t be like the Jehovah witness, that don’t celebrate Christmas, but take the gifts. : )

Very interesting article. The study attempts to put to rest the debate over Stephen Hawking’s famous information paradox, the problem created by Hawking’s conclusion that any data that enters a black hole can never leave. This conclusion accorded with the laws of thermodynamics, but opposed the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics. “What we found from string theory is that all the mass of a black hole is not getting sucked in to the center,” said Samir Mathur, lead author of the study and professor of physics at The Ohio State University. “The black hole tries to squeeze things to a point, but then the particles get stretched into these strings, and the strings…

People, people, people, they can drive you crazy, this is why you need to have peace in your heart. Some people get stressed out over something that is not even important. I say the sky is blue, the other person argues that it is gray. I say to this person it’s your world, I’m just living in it, enjoy your spicy meatball with spaghetti. : )

I posted a quote from Oswald Chamber's book 'My Utmost For His Highest' which I thought was public domain, it is not. I requested permission from the publisher but, as it turns out what I requested is too great for permission. So, they graciously granted me permission to post a link to that day's devotion! Brother Tony, this may provide you a method to receive the devotional, see the bottom of the the web page details. I still believe the purchase of the book is very worth while. 'January 11 What My Obedeince To God Costs Other People' Link embedded Do you believe Oswald is correct in his thoughts on this subject? Do you believe it will cost others more, script…

Americans can start filing their income tax returns Jan. 24, but existing backlogs and longstanding operational problems at the IRS, aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic, are likely to make for a frustrating filing season for taxpayers and tax preparers, a Treasury Department official said Monday. The IRS is still dealing with backups in processing returns from the past two filing seasons. While the tax collector typically has about about 1 million pieces of unopened mail, including tax returns, in its backlog when starting a new filing season, it had 6 million unprocessed individual returns as of Dec. 23, the most recent date for which data is available on the age…

If you had to choose one word or phrase from the Gospels that described something about Jesus Himself or something He did during His ministry that you found so encouraging or faith strengthening, what would it be? Two things come to mind as I type this: 1) Many times in the Gospels it says that Jesus “had compassion” on those around Him. My favourite example of this is the healing of the leper in Mark 1:40-42. I actually wrote a song (lyrics anyway) about that passage. Be Thou Clean Mark 1:40-42 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, move…

An ancient gold ring engraved with the figure of the Good Shepherd is one of the "spectacular" finds from two ancient shipwrecks discovered off the coast of Israel. The ring is octagonal in shape and features a green gemstone carved with the figure of a young shepherd boy dressed in a tunic and bearing a ram or sheep on his shoulders. The image of the Good Shepherd is one of the earliest images used to depict Jesus and suggests the owner was a Christian, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) said. The shipwrecks are situated just off the shore of Caesarea and were surveyed by the IAA's marine archaeology unit. Caesarea is a significant location in ear…

We were in the upper 70s just a day or two ago, and this morning we have over 4" of snow! My wife was supposed to go back to work today, but, because we got 1/4" of ice beneath the snow, and because they don't clear the roads out here, most of us are going to have to stay in today because of the slick roads. They should have melting snow and ice this afternoon, so the roads should be fine tomorrow. It's unusual to get the snow this early in the season...but, I'm glad it's now happened, and might not happen again!

I wonder if the military veterans on the board have become part of the Million Veteran Program? I joined it several years ago. I think it is an important program for any veteran, male or female to join. From their website: The Million Veteran Program (MVP) is a national research program to learn how genes, lifestyle, and military exposures affect health and illness. Since launching in 2011, over 825,000 Veteran partners have joined one of the world's largest programs on genetics and health. Veterans who partner with MVP contribute to improving the lives of fellow Veterans and ultimately, everyone. Scientific discoveries from MVP are already underway, helpin…

I know many members here don’t support getting vaccinated, which I support, it should not be enforced on anyone, am I the only one here that believe this. That the vaccine works it is not 100% that you’re are not in danger by taking it and this vaccine does not have anything to do with the mark of the beast, or control of the government over us. I know this is a touchy subject but you do not have to be ashamed of getting it. Many theories out there. I’m posting this now, because some believe I should not be posting this on the Covid post. That is my opinion, yes it is. BE SAFE

A friend posted this on another site.... Watch your thoughts ; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Greetings all, i've been reading the good book as carefully as my humble mind can take and that with trust in the Lord. However, i cannot stop thinking about many things that come up and strike me as strange, maybe i have a misconception about many things, but better ask than go nuts. Some of the questions that has occurred to me is as follows: Why does God repent creating mankind? Isn't this against the thought that God is perfect? Why does God get angry? Isn't this also against the perfectness of the Lord? Why does God forget and has to do something, for example create a bow in the clouds, to remind him of something, namely his covenant wit…

I have noticed that Preachers while preaching, have no problem talking about politics, or the ways we are living our lives here. But preaching and discussing the Covic virus or getting vaccinated or not, is not on the menu. Some may say it’s personal decision. But voting is also a personal decision. Why talk about one thing and not the other is my question. This post is not about if you should get vaccinated or not it’s about the discussion, why not talk about it, like they do with politics.

Okay, this forum did say general chats about anything. What is the difference between using a colon and a semi-colon? I have a general idea, but someone recently tried pointing out something in a Bible passage that depended upon punctuation, and I wasn't really sure if his use or understanding of that punctuation was right. It was not what I am asking about here - but wanted to see how these punctuation marks practically broke up thoughts and sentences. If I did not word this the best, please just focus on the general idea I am discussing. I do not think ANY punctuation will change the meaning of a passage (they break up or help focus on something that is being said)…

I love it when I find something ironic in the Bible about an enemy of God. Some things are overt, and some things you only see the irony or humour after you think about it for a bit. For example, God striking the Philistines with hemorrhoids was hilarious. He could have killed them, but He didn't. Worse part afterwards was that they then made golden hemorrhoids to worship. Ugh! Or the Pharaoh when he replied to Moses and said remove the frogs tomorrow. What? You want one more night with the frogs because you are so stubborn? Yowza! This was interesting today though. Just reading stuff on the life of David and I thought that what Goliath said here was ironic…
