Supporting a loved one when they start losing it
BrotherTony replied to TheGloryLand's topic in Relationships/Family
I've dealt with Alzheimer's/Dementia in my family and my wife's relatives. For me, it was my maternal grandmother, her daughter, my Aunt Janet, my maternal great grandmother, and my Aunt Florence. Many times, though they realize something isn't quite right, won't immediately face what is going head on. Instead they will implement certain coping mechanisms, many with great success. With my grandmother my wife and I moved from Augusta Georgia to Bloomington Indiana to help take care of her. My grandpa couldn't handle her, as she had become a danger to herself and others (she tried to kill my grandfather with a chef's knife, and Vivian and I with electricity), so the doctor suggested he commit her for observation. Taking care of her eventually became a source of contention between my grandfather and I, so we moved back home to Augusta. He had a stroke a year or so later. My great grandmother was in her early 90s when dementia presented itself. She passed away quickly. My two Aunts had always been active, but after being retired and on the move for 12 years, she started forgetting what to do, when to eat, etc. Aunt Florence was in her 80s when it became clear that she was in decline she was placed in the same nursing home that my GG and grandmother had been in. She died a year after taking residence there in a fall from her bed. In all of these cases it took some learning how to handle those afflicted. Vivian's twin uncles both had "Sundowners" dementia. That was hard leading one uncle to suicide, and the second one to a divorce and death from pneumonia. They both were in the process of going to a nursing home. They both had a good chance at living a decent life through their declining days. There are lots of resources available on the Internet on treating people with this affliction. -
This isn't what you put forth in your OP. You really need to be clear what you are looking for. And again, those "churches" are entitled to do whatever they want as a church. Does what these people do in their own church affect you directly? No. They will answer to the Lord. Now, we have had two high profile ministers leave the ministry in the past month. They're both wealthy. I liked SOME of what these men put forward, but, because they weren't my pastor I NEVER gave them a dime. My money is given to my local church.

Do you check out EVERY organization that you donate to and all of the people they donate to? And also whoever else donates to them? I'm pretty sure that you don't. If you found that any or all of them donate to a cause or causes that you don't agree with would you withdraw the funds that you send their way? Again, I am pretty sure you wouldn't. You're NEVER going to find a perfect church or organization. That is, to some degree, whether you like it or not, blind giving.
-
Not hardly. Again you've been cornered and confronted and you dodge the whole thing. These are NOT the actions of the "evangelist" you claim to be. Please explain how you come to the conclusion that this is a "blind answer," or withdraw the statement.

Do you tithe to the church you are a member of? Do you give to charitable organizations above and beyond and outside of your church? It's ALWAYS wise to find out where donations are going as well as where tirhe dollars are spent. But here's an observation...once again you are overly concerned? Once you tithe to a church, the church is responsible for where the money goes. They direct spending at THEIR discretion. If you don't like this, don't tithe. Same for the organizations you donate to. Any time one tithes or donates, to an extent it is BLIND. And here again, I want to take notice that you're back on the subject of money. To be honest, I think you're obsessed.

Looks to me like you're promoting the terrorism of babies! LOL Are trying to tell us that you were baptized as a baby???? Wink wink!

Don't think so. He's from this area, and many people have seen his lies and hypocrisy. And what's the idea of reviving a thread that's been dead for more than a year? Don't have any new "the sky is falling" threads? LOL

I've found that there are many people moving into the mindset you described. My wife and I have lost friends over this same issue. These people seem to elevate animals to human, and even godlike status. They don't like the fact that WE worship the Lord God and do our best to protect pets and wildlife second.

Voting for one the of two less evils biblical?

I have worked for Bojangles twice, both times in Martinez Georgia. I was the biscuit maker, but also worked everywhere else in the store. I worked for KFC in Pekin, Illinois, and my wife and I both worked for a convenience store in Augusta Georgia that did Chester Fried chicken. -

I would prefer Bojangles over KFC. Even Chester Fried would be better. Don't think I would care for Popeye's either. -

SMH... anytime it's serious you crack a joke. Do you see now why people don't take you seriously? -

Oh, good grief... enough of the negativity, Eddie. You've got an awfully low opinion of people. Sad. -

My brother in law is Jewish and only has one child. His parents only had two. I know very few Jewish families that are large. -

I forgot to add, Eddie, that this attitude is a cop out to support your lax and negative views. Sad. -

You're being overly contrarian and continue to look only on the negative, seemingly overlooking the fact that WE are not responsible for THEIR actions. Your hypotheticals are continually popping up just to attempt to make your negative views on everything relevant. We can only vote for the one who most closely reflects our beliefs as Christians, pray for our leaders as commanded in scripture, and continue to share the gospel with others, sharing our faith. You can't do that with the negativity that you are showing. -

True,. But he's given us the opportunity, privilege, and RESPONSIBILITY to participate in this process. Those who don't have no place in complaining about what our government is doing. Remember the story the Lord told about the talents being given to his three servants with one receiving ten talents, the second five talents, and the last one just one talent? The first two used their responsibilities to grow their stake. The third buried his, not using it at all, and therefore misused his opportunity. Your postings/remarks here sound identical to the one who squandered his opportunity. Do as you wish, but, I am going to use the opportunities that the Lord gives me. -

If for you it's "come to an end," that's between you and God. Don't be complaining about the government if you don't participate with your vote...and not voting isn't doing anything but cancelling out a vote and allowing the greater of the two "evils" to come to power. Sad. -

How can people NOT VOTE, period? We're NOT voting for a pastor, someone to be our spiritual guide, we're voting for the president of the country. We're ALWAYS going to have a certain level of distrust in politicians. Yet, if we're only given the choice of one or the other we have to choose the one we believe will be closest to our beliefs. Don't you think you've beat this dead horse long enough? -

Eddie, this has been the case since the beginning of time. Some people make wiser choices than others and succeed while certain others, deceitful, devilish men succeed by use of subterfuge and power grabbing. The Bible is full of examples both righteous and unrighteous. Most understand what is going on but feel helpless to effect change and give up the fight. And if you look, Eddie, the population IS panicking in one way or another. Regarding the stock markets, the wealthy elite, banks, and large corporations control what is happening. Even with the blue collar workers buying in, once again, they feel helpless to effect change, not realizing the power they truly have if they would band together. -

You're misapplying a verse. You really could benefit from a hermeneutics course. That's not at all what that is referring to. We've been given an electoral system where two parties are in place as our choices. You're trying to tell that you're not going to vote for either of them? The "lesser of two evils" is a pretty poor choice of words, but it is the current lingo. Yes, all are sinners, yet God uses sinners every day to accomplish his will. The only difference is that one group are saved individuals while the rest aren't. -

Why is it you lean to seeing the negative in everything? Regardless of the evil, if we're following Christ and his leading, his plan will still prevail. You truly need to give the Lord more credit and respect. -
Yet Another Pastor Who Doesn't Understand Morality.
BrotherTony commented on HappyChristian's news in Church
Had many people who listened to Morris or watched him on television broadcasts, been aware of all of this, I wonder how many would have continued to do so. I know that personally, I have listened to and watched his briadcasts and gleaned from his preaching, and have had many friends saved under his ministry.. I hate that he has done this thing, and believe that even with his previous restoration process, which I wholeheartedly disagree with, believe that he should NEVER have been allowed to re-enter the ministry, The "elders" who acted in the capacity of restoring him should be ashamed of themselves, allowing a pedophile to be Christ's representative in a pastoral capacity. I feel so sorry for the woman he molested. I truly pray that this is a step in recovery for her, even 40+ years later. She's in our prayers. Mr. Morris is in our prayers as well. His decision those many years ago to commit this reprehensible act has surfaced and ruined his ministry and brought yet another blot on the ministry and the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I pray his exit from the ministry is permanent this time. I'm not sure if he will receive any jail time for this, but I believe he should, as he still, in his statements refers to the then child as just a "young lady," showing still an attempt to somewhat minimize the situation. -

Do YOU vote, Eddie? If you do, do YOU vote for one of the choices of candidates, or do you write in a name of a Christian who isn't running, has no chance of winning, wasting the vote you DO HAVE? Voting is a God given privilege to we as Americans, most often with several choices on the ballot for each office. We have to vote for the ones who are closest to the Bible if possible, but not necessarily a Christian. You state the Bible calls Satan as the God of this world, and rightly so. But, we DO NOT serve the adversary as the children of God, the creator of all things, including Lucifer. God is still working things according to His good pleasure, and has promised defeat of said adversary. God is still in control. Vote, don't vote, that's between you and God.
