Guest Guest
I am home school all the way! But I have heard people say that if the mother is a high school drop-out then she should not home school her kids (even though it is Biblical). What do you all think? Members pneu-engine
I think that HS drop-out woman that got saved has every bit as much right as any one to homeschool. She can still get the curriculum ( I like PCC's A Beka program a lot) and with God's help, learn right along with her kids. Needless to say, she has to be diligent and dedicate herself to it. :D
Guest Guest
So do you all think dropping out of high school is a sin? Katy-Anne
Guest Guest
I only ask this PE not to start an argument but just because of the way you answered it saying "a HS drop-out that got saved". And I do know some people that believe it is sin so I want to ask. Katy-Anne

Members Bakershalfdozen
Katy-Anne, there are several different curricula out there to meet almost any family's situation. I, too, know some mothers who do not have a college education and don't want to pretend at homeschooling, so they use A Beka video school or BJU satellite school. There is also Alpha Omega's Switched On Schoolhouse which is for the computer. Alpha Omega also has online schooling as well as traditional textbook schooling which the parent would have to teach (A Beka and BJU do as well). There are many more options too. Those are just a few. As for dropping out of high school being a sin - I suppose someone could make that argument with "finish what you start" but sometimes I feel like some people are out to find a sin in everything. Finishing high school or getting a GED would definitely help someone be able to do more in life and I think it is a goal worth striving for. Members Bakershalfdozen
BTW, anyone who homeschools really should have an appreciation for education and learning and not go about it haphazardly.

Guest Guest
Yep when I have children I want them to have the best I can offer them, and I just couldn't put them in a public school. Yes I did drop out but I value education much more now than what I did back then, and I also dropped out back then because it was my parents wishes. Members Bakershalfdozen
Also, some states (here in the USA) require a certain level of education in order for a parent to homeschool. The state I live in requires that one be at least a high school graduate.

Members chev1958
Well, I started to say something (actually had quite a bit written about it), then decided against posting it. I've been in enough trouble with the women on here lately (women voting, wearing pants) . My record has not been too good recently. :frog Mitch

Members Chelle
The state I live in requires that one be at least a high school graduate.
Depending on the quality of the education in high schools in your area, that may be a high standard or a low one. In either case, at least I know I would qualify if I lived in your state. :D (I have a bachelor's degree). I'll have to do some more research on the requirements here in Texas, but overall Texas is one of the more homeschool-friendly states. :)
Members Bakershalfdozen
It is a low standard in my state. However, I am not from here and I also have a bachelor's degree so I feel qualified.
