Genesis 3:18 - Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

Matthew 27:29 - And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

Galatians 3:13 - Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Does anyone know if there is any connection found within these 3 verses? I was thinking that there might be but wanted to get a second opinion. :smile

Madeline

Hmm, good question. Thinking that yes, perhaps so. Since thorns are a symbol of the fruit of our sin, and Christ took our sins upon Him, then why not have the crown made of the same symbol?

I'll wait to see what others think. Very good question indeed.

As you can probably tell I copied this straight from a source with Strong's numbers. Thought you might want the verse for where the curse comes from in the OT.

Yep. The cross reference for Galatians 3:13 is Duet. 21:22,23. Adam was naked hiding behind the trees of the garden. Christ was naked hanging on a "tree" (among two other "trees" ) in plain view. The serpent was on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil when sin enter the world. Christ , who became a serpent for us, was on the "tree" when the payment for sin was made by him (John 3:14; Numbers 21:8,9; Psalm 22:6) for the world.
Christ's death on the cross and resurrection also guarntees that some day the curse will be lifted from the earth, for he bore that too.(Romans 8:20-23).
