I'm starting working with Ruby on Rails for web development and so far it's been going pretty good. I can get a project going like 10 times faster than when I used plain PHP (without any MVC frameworks of course), and I'm still only learning Rails while I've had about 4 years experience with PHP. I still have yet to see how it scales with big projects though. So, has anybody else given Ruby on Rails (or similar frameworks) a spin yet?

I tried using Akelos first, which is a port of Rails to PHP, but had no luck getting it up and running. Rails has been quite nice to work with so far though (been learning/using it for about a month now, nothing to show yet though).

I had the same problem, but after my 5000 line project started being a bit of a pain to scale, I decided to invest some time in learning a framework to help me out. First I tried Akelos (didn't work) and I considered trying Symfony since they are both PHP frameworks and I already know PHP, but then I decided to jump into RoR, and even though I lost some time, I think the investment was worth it. My biggest problem is that most of the documentation online is still for Rails 1.x and I'm using 2.1 so I had to buy a book. Once I get some websites done with it, I'll post them here for you guys to see.

Some PHP sites I've built (oldest to newest), btw:
http://chudosok.info/ <- an experiment in Ajax
http://detyabozhye.com/ <- my personal site
http://agentfly.us/ <- very big project that I'm currently rewriting in Rails
