MLK Day prayer

So, I received a surprise today: I got a call from a lady on the base here where I work-I am going to speak race for a minute because it is part of the subject. It is a black lady on the base, a lovely Christian woman, and she is, I guess, in charge of the base's Martin Luther King day event, and she called to ask me to give the prayer for the event.

Now, it is to me an honor, because, despite all the controversy around MLK, and I know there is a lot on both sides, from what he spoke, I agree with his message, that race should not play into everything in human relations-but as many know, there are still those, on both sides, who don't see it that way, and use the name of King to continue a great racial divide in the country, (in case you've had your eyes closed the last eight years here in America). Now, generally-speaking, I don't see a big racial issue oin the area where I live, or among the employees, but I admit to wondering if there will be those who will have a fit over a white man giving the prayer at an MLK (to some a 'black' event) event.

Still, I look forward to it, because I believe the Bible is clear that the Lord created all men of ONE blood, and if people could embrace such a truth, and understand how unimportant, in this day and age, skin color is, things might be a little better.

If you feel that God is leading you lead the prayer in that event than I would be behind it. In fact, I would consider it a blessing.

If the event ( or any other event), could be miss-construed to be a ecumenial event, or if it could be construed that I comprimised my beliefs, that I would be leery of leading the prayer.

From what you say, I think it would be a good for you to attend and be a blessing to the folks at the event.

I am not seeing it as a 'religious' event, perhaps more a recognition that King was a preacher as well, so definitely not ecumenical in nature. And i DO consider it a blessing, and I plan to go and pray. Gives me an opportunity to look up some of his speeches and really see where he was, not just the typical "I Have A Dream" speech.

Lets see white guy at a primarily Christian function.  Maybe I'm a city boy lol.  What part of Kentucky are you in anyway?   lol.   Anyway I go to the march every year.  The one in Atlanta hand out bible tracts and talk with people.  I have a pretty good time at the march.  I'm white no one seems to care or notice even.  I just relax and try not to use my own understanding of the way I "think" things are.
