It was my wife's 401k, part of her previous job. She fears for her retirement, and was very upset that we had to dip into it, but I refused to touch it unless she approved.

We live in a small town outside Tulsa. My wife makes money subbing in several different school districts, so a car is a must.

The mechanic said it was the transmission, and fixing it would cost basically what the car was worth.
