While I grew up with dogs, my dad was always the one to go to the vet to put them to sleep along with my sister. Please rephrase that to say My dad, along with my sister, was always the one to go to the vet to put them to sleep....That way I don't think your Dad put your sister down along with the dog.

My dad just took his pistol walked outside and shot the sick dog, dug a hole and it was buried.  We got used to life and death at a young age. I still cried my eyes out over some of the good hunting dogs.
