My Dad had me using a splitting maul too! No dynamite involved.

 

I used to enjoy splitting firewood. It might have been even more fun with dynamite!!

Trouble with dynamite is you would never hear that momentous C-R-A-C-K when that big block of wood finally gave up.  What a pleasing sound that was.
