[Documentary Series] Victory At Sea

The "Victory at Sea" series was produced by NBC for television in 1952-53. It details the classic sea battles of WWII and provides insight into the land struggles of both Europe and the Pacific. Did you know there was a huge struggle for the island of Malta in the Mediterranean after the fall of France? The events surrounding this conflict titled "Mediterranean Mosaic" and many others are detailed in this series.

I used to watch these on 16MM reels while working in a film library in my early Navy days (1971-1972).

They are in black and white, however the filming and narration are very good. No profanity is a huge plus. I picked up a double disk set at Wallmart for $5 from the not so popular bin. There are 26 episodes on the 2 disk set each about a half hour long.

A must sea for sailors and land lubbers too...this is not scuttlebut !

There is some great material there even if the narrative can sometimes be filled with propaganda rather than fact.

Our oldest son is considering going into the Navy after high school. He would like to serve on a ship and is wondering what field to go into for that. It seems those naval history books and other such books I got him when he was younger made an impact.

Your son should look at these...
Surface ship technical ratings...DS - data systems technician (mostly computers), ET - electronics technician (radar, communications equip. etc.), ST - sonar technician (electronics, and sonar), FT - fire control technician (weapons fire control is a mix of DS&ET), CT - cryptology technician (a lot of electronics training).
Naval avaition technical ratings...AT aviation electronics technician (radar, communications equip. etc.), there are others but they all deal with aviation...fire control, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean above "sometimes be filled with propaganda rather than fact" as a retired Navy veteran I didn't see this.

Thanks.

I wasn't referring to Navy facts, but comments regarding other matters.

My uncle was in the Navy, but that was many years ago. I really need to get some updated information to look at.
