Government control & regulations in the end isn't it really about collecting a fee from its citizens so that the politicians can collect money so they'll have money to spend on their pet porky projects?

Government control & regulations in the end isn't it really about collecting a fee from its citizens so that the politicians can collect money so they'll have money to spend on their pet porky projects?

No mostly it's about getting and keeping power.  I think you will find that most pork projects are implemented by politicians who are merely keeping promises to the businesses and or unions who bribe them.  I think bribe is a much more accurate word than campaign contributions.  The fact that those in power find it necessary to levy more and more taxes against the people is just a consequence of their actions not the main purpose.  

 

I guess you could look at it this way; you and I cannot afford the kind of money that the politician needs to keep him in power so he has no reason to kowtow to us, but he has millions of reasons to kowtow to Wall Street bankers and big business.  This may sound harsh and cynical, but for the most part, show me an honest politician and I will show you a politician that is not in office.
