The Devil's Armour - as related in a conversation between Diabolus (the Devil) and the town of Mansoul (man's soul). This was taken from John Bunyan's allegory entitled The Holy War. As you read this, contrast it with the Armour of God in Ephesians 6, and realize how much Satan is a deceiver and counterfeiter of the truth and of spiritual things.
Up, and stand to your arms, that now, while you have any leisure, I may learn you some feats of war. Armour for you I have, and by me it is; yea, and it is sufficient for Mansoul from top to toe; nor can you be hurt by what his force can do, if you shall keep it well girt and fastened about you. Come, th…

I have preached some of these devotionals on Fridays at the Gospel Mission. They are now marked with asterisks by the date, for those who might be interested. Daily Devotionals for September 2004 Daily Devotional For Wednesday September 1st/04 Psalm 107 - Part One This Psalm is divided into four main sections, each one presenting a different picture of the distress of man. While each part deals with a physical dilemma, I believe that a spiritual crisis is also pictured in each. In regards to the spiritual aspects of this Psalm, I think that both the los…

These can also be read on my Bible Study Site at: Daily Devotionals for July and August 2004 I have added asterisks besides the Devotions I have preached at the Gospel Mission. I have been wanting to do this for a long time but I never seem to get around to it. There are always little nuggets I glean in my devotions from the Bible, or a quote from a solid commentary that I really want to pass on. I will attempt to post short little word studies or observations that you can read each day. Let me know if there are specific passages or word studies that you would be interest…

I have edited this study slightly since I posted the original link a couple of days ago. I wanted to make it a bit clearer (in The Valley Of Decision section), and add some more references (in My High Places section). Lessons In The Valleys - The Lily Of The Valleys I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. Song of Solomon 2:1 Jesus Christ here identifies Himself as the rarest and most beautiful of flowers, the rose of Sharon. Red in the Bible typically pictures sacrifice and shed blood. Jesus was our sacrifice and shed His blood for our sins on the cross of Calvary. This makes Him the most beautiful of Sa…

This is a variation (and significant expansion) of the message I preached at the Gospel Mission yesterday (Friday July 30th/04). If there are any parts that aren't clear enough, or if you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you. Three Appointments There are three appointments that each of us will be faced with. The first appointment is one none of us can avoid. The second appointment will depend upon our response to the third appointment

I came across this book recently, and thought it was worth reading. I am not endorsing all Pink believes (ie. his Calvinism), but he definitely is Christ-centered and what I have read is worth reading. Comfort For Christians http://www.pbministries.org/books/pink/ ... omfort.htm This book contains really short chapters that are great for daily readings. Only 17 of them, so it shouldn't take you too long! (Note: I have not read all the chapters yet, so if there are any problems - other than the calvinism - please let me know. Thanks.) The Introduction of the book: The work unto which the servant of Christ is called is many-sided. Not on…

It Is Finished Here we see the end of our sins. The sins of the believer - all of them - were transferred to the Saviour. As saith the scripture, "The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isa. 53:6). If then God laid my iniquities on Christ, they are no longer on me. Sin there is in me, for the old Adamic nature remains in the believer till death or till Christ
Keeping their hearts in love with God was Israel's key to obedience and closeness to God.
A Heart For God By Vince Londini Deuteronomy 4:9 teaches true believers in any dispensation how to keep their hearts in tune with God. Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; Deuteronomy 4:9 Take Heed To Thyself "Take heed" could read, "Pay attention!" "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices" (2 Corinthians 2:11). …

The Tabernacle - No. 4 OUR HOLY CATHOLIC PRIEST In our previous three series of Bible messages on the Tabernacle we studied the Tabernacle as it was designed by God. We viewed it from the outside, at a distance, separated from God. Gradually we made our way to the Gate where we saw Christ the only Door into Heaven. We stopped inside to cleanse ourselves at the Laver which pictured God's Holy Word. We drew near to the Brazen Altar which was the place of sacrifice for the sins of the people. Then we approached the Tabernacle itself and found there the Table of Shewbread representing the Living Bread from heaven…

Taken from Streams In The Desert Can Thine Heart Endure "We know not what we should pray for as we ought" (Rom. 8:26). Much that perplexes us in our Christian experience is but the answer to our prayers. We pray for patience, and our Father sends those who tax us to the utmost; for "tribulation worketh patience." We pray for submission, and God sends sufferings; for "we learn obedience by the things we suffer." We pray for unselfishness, and God gives us opportunities to sacrifice ourselves by thinking on the things of others, and by laying down our lives for the brethren. We pray for strength and humility, and some mes…

I found this convicting devotion in my email today! Beginning Without Finishing Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; No temptation in the life of intercession is more common than this of failure to persevere. We begin to pray for a certain thing; we put up our petitions for a day, a week, a month; and then, receiving as yet no definite answer, straightway we faint, and cease altogether from prayer concerning it. This is a deadly fault. It is simply the snare of many beginnings with no completions. It is ruinous in all spheres of life. The man who forms the habit…

Part two of a two-part study on rest: Rest For Your Souls - The Rest Of Victory In Christ Psalm 23:1-3 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. What a blessing it is for the children of God to walk with Jesus day by day, to live in continual fellowship with Him, trusting in Him for their every care and need. What a privilege to know this Shepherd as our personal Saviour. We need never fear when we remember that Jesus is always with us. He continually makes u…

These quotes were taken from J. Hudson Taylor - God's Man In China. This was written shortly after he and his wife lost a newborn child, and right after his wife died.
'How lonesome,' he recalled, 'were the weary hours when confined to my room. How I missed my dear wife and the little pattering footsteps of the children far away in England! Then it was I understood why the Lord had made that passage so real to me, "Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst." Twenty times a day, perhaps, as I felt the heart-thirst coming back, I cried to Him: '"Lord, you promised! You promised me that I should neve…

This is part two of my series on the Letters to the Seven Churches. The first introductory study is a look at Revelation chapter one. This explains the symbolism, as well as lays the groundwork for the rest of these studies. Time for some more poetry posts!! :D As Psalm 23 was David's testimony, I pray that this would be my testimony and the testimony of all who read it! The Valley Of Faith The Lord is my Shepherd. He's proven faithful throughout the years. Though I walk through death's dark valley, His grace calmly soothes all my fears. As I closely follow His leading, He provides for my every need. Oh, the waters are so peaceful, And the pastures are rich indeed! When I get weary and heavy laden, when the labour of love takes its toll, I go to the Shepherd for refreshing, and He gently restores my soul. As I lean upon the Shepherd, He guides me in the path…

THE FIRST DAY OF CREATION NO. 1252 A SERMON DELIVERED ON LORD'S DAY MORNING, AUGUST 29TH, 1875, BY C. H. SPURGEON, AT THE METROPOLITAN TABERNACLE, NEWINGTON. PORTION OF SCRIPTURE READ BEFORE SERMON - Genesis 1. HYMNS FROM "OUR OWN HYMN BOOK." - 104, 205, 891. "And God saw the light that it was good." - Genesis 1:4. We shall this morning leave all discussion as to the creation of the world to those learned divines who have paid their special attention to that subject, and to those geologists who know, or at any rate think they know, a very great deal about it. It is a very interesting subject, but this is not the time for its consider…

I have posted links to this article before to answer some questions, but I find many times that the other Christians here sometimes either do not follow links to other sites or do not post their replies to the material presented. So here it is on Online Baptist. This should answer some of the questions posted recently as well. Even if you disagree with some of what I have presented here, or my own conclusions, at least please prayerfully consider the information presented as this article answers many of the questions that keep coming up. It also states why we feel so strongly on this issue. Bible Versions - Does It Matter? I have been comparing Bible v…

How important it is to be specific in prayer, and to keep praying for specific needs until they are answered. It is easier to give God the glory when you see the need met, and it builds your faith as you see Him meet each and every need or burden you give to Him in fervent prayer! I remember a situation in the life of George Muller when he was praying about starting up an orphanage. He and his wife were praying for the Lord to provide everything they needed to get this orphanage going; they prayed about each and every item that they knew they would need, and the Lord provided exactly what they needed. Well, the big day came that they had decided to open the orpha…

THEIR DESIRED HAVEN. NO. 3316 A SERMON PUBLISHED ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 22ND, 1912. DELIVERED BY C. H. SPURGEON, AT THE METROPOLITAN TABERNACLE, NEWINGTON. ON SUNDAY EVENING, JUNE 17TH, 1866. So he bringeth them to their desired haven. - Psalm 107:30. TAKEN strictly, according to its original connection, the text plainly and powerfully reminds us, that our providential mercies ought never be forgotten; and more especially those remarkable mercies, which concern the safety of our life in times of great peril. If there are any of you who have been exposed to storms at sea, or who have in any other way been brought near death's door, and have then …

Problems, Perplexities, and Pressures The following message was preached by Dr. J.B. Buffington during his long and fruitful pastorate at Calvary Baptist Church of Lakeland, Florida. And then he said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines. And Saul shall despair of me to seek me any more in any coast of Israel so shall I escape out of his hands, And David arose, and passed over with the six hundred men that were with him from Aichish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath. And David dwelt with Aichish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his h…

Not sure who wrote this, but it was in our last church bulletin. Worldliness "Be ye separate..." 2 Corinthians 6:17 A story is told of a gentleman who had a splendid singing canary. A friend wanted to see if he could teach his sparrows to sing by keeping the canary with them. He borrowed it and placed it in the cage with the sparrows. Instead, however, of teaching them to sing, the poor bird got so timid among the strange birds that it stopped singing altogether, and did nothing but chirp like the sparrows. The owner then took it back, but still it would not sing. It then occured to him to put it beside another canary which sang well. This ha…
