I know it's frowned upon to listen to any type of music that is contemporary in nature... but coming from a Charismatic background... I'm used to listening to music with a beat. However, I do not feel wordly or have worldly desires when I listen to praise and worship music, such as: "Shout to the Lord", "From The Inside Out", or "Awesome God" or any of those... Now I don't really enjoy the rock/rap movement within the Christian music industry...

These songs do put me in membrance of Christ and His sacrifice and free gift of Salvation... and I give Him glory.

Am I sinning since I do not feel convicted by listening to these songs?

Music, like cards and the theater, is a matter of personal conviction. Some people find it offensive. I enjoy worshiping with contemporary worship songs.

P.S. I recommend a move to the music forum. :wink

Oopsie! Thanks for the move... Didn't know where it should go but thanks! :ooops

I know a lot of people frown upon it and I'm a new Christian and I still have the habit of making sure that what I do isn't a sin, which is the norm since I grew up always asking others what is right or wrong.

I couldn't find anything specific on music, other than remembering something about praising the Lord with the timbrel and the harp... but other than that, couldn't find any verses against certain music in the Bible so any Scripture would be helpful!

I think the "I'm used to listening to music with a beat." is the key. It is quite possible to get used to music with a "beat" but that doesn't make it right. The fact that you even have a question about it would seem to show you know something isn't exactly right. If I may make a suggestion, try listening only to music that is above reproach for a year or so, Godly music that no one can codemn, and then go back and listen to the "questionable" music and see if you still feel it is "ok" or realize why it is condmned. :2cents

BTW just so you know, kevins view on this is not in line with the majority of the board. :lol

I suggest doing a search on the forum, there are many threads on it...and maybe reading some of David Cloud's stuff...and then deciding for yourself...its a hot topic around here. LOL!

Well by stating "music with a beat" I'm talking about music that has more instruments than just an organ. I don't feel that all CCM is wrong... and the only reason I'm asking is to find out the IFB perspective on this question. I will ask my pastor tomorrow and see what he says, but I want to know what everyone here thinks as well.

I'm still open to others' views... but I do want Scripture to show me where to find it in the Bible.

Seth, thanks for the tip...

Suzy, I know we had this discussion last night... sorry if I seem redundant... but would still like more info and will do some searching and read Bro. Cloud's material and take into prayer and consideration his perspective as well as y'alls...

I totally understand.... I'm just saying too that the archives on this board have a TON of stuff on music, and you can do a quick search and get all the information you could ever want LOL....people tend to argue on this topic, unfortunately.

LOL! "Let there be abundance of knowledge!" Eh? :wink

I don't mind civilized debating but not arguing... If people start arguing over this little issue, then to me that means that I will gracefully ask the mods to close the threads... If we won't be arguing in God's Kingdom, why here?

Thanks Seth!
