I saw that in the news yesterday. Let's get all of them that abuse kids and adults.

I agree. The sad part is that these types of people seem to flock together, ie, Dave Hyles. This church is within a half hour of my home. I have a friend who is a big supporter of this church and pastor. He now lives in Ohio now and is a good friend of Dave Hyles. He recommends this church, the Bible collegand the writings/Bible studies put out DH and this pastor. I've had to distance myself from him. There are several other churches here, in Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama that have had pastors resign or have fired their pastors because of sexual impropriety. And then we have had the high profile issues with Tony Evans and Robert Morris. Lord help us. So many wolves in sheeps clothing.

I heard that with Pastor David Baker's arrest that it involved one of his underage girls. Is that true?

Just finished watching this video (warning: graphic descriptions)

That is what we have been told. It's sad that he's attacked several accusers and stood with the perpetrator instead. I was once asked to go to revival services at Family Baptist Church, but, knowing that David Hyles was there and was going to be one of the speakers I declined the invite. I can't recommend the church, especially in light of what has happened. I have been a member of several churches that have gone through this kind of thing, and NONE OF THEM handled this well, instead covering it up

Lord help us if we continue to allow this kind of thing to go unreported, and undealt with.

I have to say this, though. I do feel sorry for his wife and his kids. This has got to be hard on them. The unwanted attention that this has brought upon them is most likely unbearable. I'm praying for them, and for Family Baptist Church. It's a very sad situation.

What is the matter with these groups?  Christians should hold ourselves to a higher standard than the world - and leaders even more so. And even the world knows to hate this kind of thing!   Our church set up a Child Protection Policy a few years back that makes it Very. Clear. that the proper authorities are to be notified in such a case.

I had a pastor friend who confessed to affairs with prostitutes... he'd hidden it for a very long time. He wasn't found out but confessed freely and stepped down from the pulpit - and if he hadn't, the other pastors around here would have encouraged it. How can these churches not do the same?

I’ll tell you why other churches don’t do anything, because the members and the leaders of the churches decides on going to easy route, and turn the other way. In the past, there were strong, pastors, and strong leaders that stood for the truth, today you have leaders that have been divorced, not discipline and still are in places of leadership. Then you have the members that are spiritually blind that don’t see or vote on meetings.

Unchecked pastoral power is a good place to start. Because of what happened with Hyles and others, many churches are going to a plurality of elders to try and combat this kind of thing. Still, Morris' church had this and still covered it up. As far as I know from friends who attended Gateway Church, Morris is still somewhat in denial, still referring to the victim who was at that time a child, as "a young 'lady.'  Since Morris' departure a couple of other elders have left.

How did he ever let himself get in that kind of trouble? A pastor, or any other man, should never allow himself to be in a situation where he is alone with a woman or girl other than his Wife, mother, daughter or sister.

There will be false prophets and teachers. More as the end times draws nearer. Not to be surprised

If people would properly vet their pastors and strenuously pray and seek God's face in their decisions there would be far less of this kind of thing. Many churches who are without pastors, and those that have had interims for extended periods of time and are in too big of a hurry to fill the position of pastor with a warm body, if they're a good speaker or appealing to people.

WOW

It's very disconcerting when pastors, alleged men of God, sexually assault anyone, but, to assault ones own flesh and blood makes them a wholly despicable kind of pervert. It boils my blood just thinking about it.
