Lord willing, this is what I will be preaching today. What Is Written On Your Record? The Record Of The Sinner Isaiah 30:8 Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: Isaiah 30:9-13 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, B…

Daily Devotional for Saturday October 1st/05 Faith Is A Target "And the Lord said . . . Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not" (Luke 22:31, 32). Our faith is the center of the target at which God doth shoot when He tries us; and if any other grace shall escape untried, certainly faith shall not. There is no way of piercing faith to its very marrow like the sticking of the arrow of desertion into it; this finds it out whether it be of the immortals or no. Strip it of its armor of conscious enjoyment, and suffer the terrors of the Lord to set themselves in array agai…

The Story Of Three Gardens: The Garden Of Eden In Genesis chapter one, we have the account of Creation. Adam, the first man, was created on day six. God then created a garden eastward in Eden and placed man there in this perfect, sinless environment. Eden means

The Story Of Three Gardens - The Garden Of Gethsemane In Genesis 3, we have the true account of Adam and Eve's temptation in The Garden of Eden (see part one of this series of studies). Due to their heeding the Devil's lies they disobeyed God's clear command and brought sin into the world. As a consequence, God's punishment fell upon them and their descendents (all mankind): Genesis 3:17-19 And unto Adam He said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: [b…

The Little Baptist. Chapter Sixteen. Communion. "Mellie," said Nannie Gordon, "There is one thing that will always keep me from being a Baptist. I believe in immersion, but I can't approve of your close communion. Why, last Sunday when Dr. Farnsworth invited all Christians of every name to come to the Lord's Table, there sat you and your mother, and a number of other Baptists, all looking on, and not one of you accepted the invitation. I can't see how you can do so. Does your mother think that because she has joined the Baptists, she is too good to commune with Presbyterians any more!" "Now, Nannie," said Mellie, "wouldn't it have looked strange f…

PAYDAY SOMEDAY! by Dr. R.G. LEE "Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it. And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine...And of Jezebel also spake the Lord, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel" (I Kings 21:18,19,23). The following poem was written by way of encouragement to those dealing with difficult decisions and issues in their lives - such as Katy-Anne and my sister - who desire to do right, but are uncertain of the way the Lord would have them go right now. It was written to the tune of Day By Day (which lyrics I have quoted below) - a hymn that has truly had an impact on my life these last few months. The first line of my poem came into my mind to that tune and I couldn't get it back out again - so I started praying for the Lord to give me the words to make a song out of it. He brought some passages to mind, and here is the result. I may need to adjust it slightly depend…

This was written to comfort a family that stayed at the motel where I work. I had met them in June when they took their adopted son to the hospital due to an illness he had. Sometime in July he passed away. Part of their grief stems from the fact that they believe that one of the medical staff had given him some medication they were not suppposed to, which resulted in the complications that led to his death. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours with them to encourage them (and vice versa). I wrote this poem this morning, and was able to share it with them. Their son also had several handicaps - unable to walk, talk, see, plus some others - I mention this so some aspects…

It's Jesus There's a refuge to be found in the midst of life's storms, There's a peace so profound it will guard your heart from harm, Where is this shelter under the everlasting arms? It's Jesus. There's only one Saviour who died to make men free, One source of Living Water that flows abundantly, One plan of salvation - Are you thirsty? Come and see. It's Jesus. There's one sinless Man whose life He gave, Only one Man who arose victorious over the grave, There's only one Saviour who can ever save, It's Jesus. There's one fountain of blood that can cleanse all sin, Only one Spirit of Life that will dwell within, True righteousness is…

The Battle Is The Lord's Our God is the God of the impossible, Oh stand still, and He shall make a way. Jesus is the Captain of the Lord's Host; Fear not, He shall fight for you this day. He's God of all the hills and valleys, All earth's treasures are under His command. Oh be not fretful nor discouraged, All we need comes from His loving hand. When evil seems to overwhelm you, Fear not sin's entanglements and cords, With steadfast faith, claim the victory, My brethren, the battle is the Lord's. May 26th, 2003 Jerry Bouey

Found this old poem tonight that I had never done anything with - I probably had it set aside to add more stanzas to it, but I actually like it the way it is and thought it would be worth posting. Near To The Throne Of God In sin so long I had wandered, My spirit, in darkness had trod, But someone stood in the gap for me, Brought me near to the throne of God. The Lord opened my eyes to see, He heard my repentant heart pray. In faith, I came to the rugged cross To Jesus, the Life and the Way. I owe it all to my Saviour: His servant He placed in my way, He brought me near to the throne of God - And praise Him, He saved me that day! No…

The Little Baptist Chapter 14. The Saturday Meeting - Family Consultation. It was a beautiful Saturday morning in the month of May. Everything was astir at Colonel Brown's, getting ready to go to the Baptist meeting. Contrary to the expectations of Mrs. Brown and Mellie, Colonel Brown and Frank declined going with them. When the ladies arrived at the church, they found an unusually large congregation for a conference meeting. This church adhered to the old custom of holding a meeting once a month on Saturday, to attend to the general business of the church. It has been said that "coming events cast their shadows before;" and at this time anticipation…

Daily Devotional for Thursday September 1st/05 The following two excerpts are taken from a long sermon by Oswald J. Smith, entitled The Only Way. If you are looking for answers in regards to what the Bible has to say about salvation (or know of others who are), this sermon is well worth the read, as it lays God's plan of salvation out clearly and plainly. "Ridiculous! Absurd! Foolishness!" And the proud banker curled his lip in scorn. "But why?" inquired the one to whom he had spoken. "Why? Do you, a thinking …

Eulogy for Malonie Trembllay (Smith) Our Mom's Victory Through Faith By her son, Jerry Bouey, and daughter, Lori McCoy Jesus wept. It was at the graveside of His friend Lazarus. While the Saviour observed the grief of His friends, He identified fully with that grief, was moved with compassion for their loss, and He groaned in His spirit and was troubled. Then... Jesus wept. Who would have thought this - the shortest verse in the whole Bible - could offer comfort to those who would be reading it hundreds or even thousands of years later? It means that God Himself knows what we are going through - even now - and can identif…

The Little Baptist Chapter 13. The Church Trial - Strange Visitor. Doctor Farnsworth having, as he considered, used all the means in his power to influence Mrs. Brown to desist from her public criticisms regarding the usages of the church, summoned the Ruling Elders to a Session Meeting, and with expressions of regret for the necessity of such a course, laid before them the state of affairs in the Brown family. He thought himself not wanting in liberality of feeling, nor averse to a free exercise of opinions by others, and had no inclination to deny the right of conscience in all matters of religion. "But there are occasions," said he, "when 'forbearance …

The Little Baptist Chapter 12. Discussion Of Baptism. Mellie is again at home with her mother. Seven years of her life have gone by since she was first introduced to the reader. She has grown much; and observation, experience and education, have done for her all that could have been done for any one under like circumstances. She is yet small, though now a young lady, and her intelligence is such, that she is peculiarly attractive. Her acquaintances still speak of her as "Little Mellie;" and the little "Baptist Bible," though greatly damaged by use, is still preserved. She has read, and reread, until she is familiar with its teachings; and pencil marks , d…

The Little Baptist Chapter 10. The Country School - Mrs. Brown's Mental Agitations Soon after Mellie was fourteen years old, she was sent off to a select boarding school in the country, and places under the care of one of her mother's particular friends - a lady of much experience as a teacher. She was gratified at this arrangement; for she not only loved to attend school and study, but she was delighted with life in the country, where she had opportunities of observing nature in all its varied phases. The following letter written to her mother, gives some idea of her situation, and the state of her mind: "My dear Mamma: - I have now been at Forest H…

The Holy War by John Bunyan Chapter Fourteen Now, as Diabolus was busy and industrious in preparing to make his assault upon the town of Mansoul without, so the captains and soldiers in the corporation were as busy in preparing within; they mounted their slings, they set up their banners, they sounded their trumpets, and put themselves in such order as was judged most for the annoyance of the enemy, and for the advantage of Mansoul, and gave to their soldiers orders to be ready at the sound of the trumpet for war. The Lord Willbewill also, he took the charge of watching against the rebels within, and to do what he could to take them while w…

The Holy War by John Bunyan Chapter Thirteen And not many days after he provided for his journey, and went towards Hell-Gate Hill, into the country where the Doubters were, where he heard of all that had been talked of in Mansoul, and he perceived also that Diabolus was almost ready for his march, etc. So he came back with speed, and, calling the captains and elders of Mansoul together, he told them where he had been, what he had heard, and what he had seen. Particularly, he told them that Diabolus was almost ready for his march, and that he had made old Mr. Incredulity, that once brake prison in Mansoul, the general of his army; that his a…
