This discussion is huge on semantics!

I think when God says "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and though shalt be saved" that it is simple truth. The key is to believe on the LORD JESUS CHRIST. "Lord" signifies a repentance because you are making Him Lord of your life, "Jesus" is a belief that He is God's Son, and "Christ" acknowledges Him as Savior.

This can all be done in an instant. Its all combined into one humble heart attitude at the moment of salvation. So "accepting Jesus as Savior" would be correct as long as the heart attitude follows the above verse in all sincerity.

Right Suzy, but many seem to love to make it all complicated which leads to confusion.

Paul summed it up very good.

1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans 10:1-11 (KJV)

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. Psalm 118:8

No semantics.  No method man's way.  No doctrine opposed to God's Word.  Not even a hint of differing or opposing God's Word.  Never adding to,  never taking away from God's Word.

Every Word of God Is True.  Not One Falls To The Ground.  All Is Accomplished Perfectly As He Says.

This Means, All the following, and more, is True.  Nothing is at all contradictory, no, but perfect harmony with all God's Word, Plan and Purpose.  Many different aspects or perspectives or realizations that are not often taught perhaps;  none-the-less all Truth.

From Blue Letter Bible,   (EDIT IN:  the Strong's Reference Number G4982  disappeared in some of the formatting or unformatting, but it is in almost every verse posted below - the word for Saved, Salvation, Healing, Wholeness?, et al,  all the same in Greek, translated variously in KJV)

Some of the Verses Translated in the KJV with the same original (as far as accepted today here; fragments et al found with or like the dead sea scrolls recently brought to light new information) word:

Act 2:40

And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves G4982 from this untoward generation.

 Act 2:21

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. G4982

Jde 1:23

And others save G4982 with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Jde 1:5

I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved G4982 the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Jhn 12:44

¶

Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

 Jhn 12:45

And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

 Jhn 12:46

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

 Jhn 12:47

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

 Jhn 12:48

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

 Jhn 12:49

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

 Jhn 12:50

And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Luk 13:22

¶

And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

 Luk 13:23

Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

 Luk 13:24

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Mar 13:13

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. G4982

1Pe 4:18

And if the righteous scarcely be saved, G4982 where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

Jas 5:20

Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save G4982 a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

 1Pe 3:21

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth G4982 ➔ also now save G4982 us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Jas 2:24

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

 Jas 2:25

¶

Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

 Jas 2:26

¶

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Jas 2:14

¶

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

 Jas 2:15

If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

 Jas 2:16

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

 Jas 2:17

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Jas 1:21

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save G4982 your souls.

1Ti 4:16

Notwithstanding she shall be saved G4982 in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

 2Th 2:9

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

 2Th 2:10

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

 2Th 2:11

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

 2Th 2:12

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

1Co 15:2

By which also ye are saved, G4982 if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1Co 7:16

For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save G4982 thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save G4982 thy wife?

1Co 1:21

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save G4982 them that believe.

Rom 11:14

If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save G4982 some of them.
