Jim_Alaska's post in Cloven tongues like as of fire was marked as the answer
If I am understanding what you ask, the answer is no. This was the empowering of the church as the institution that Jesus founded. His church has already been empowered on the day of Pentecost to carry out His work and there is no need for further empowering. The was only one day of Pentecost, so only one event is needed.
I hope I understood what you were asking.

Jim_Alaska's post in How to politely fired the Pastor of a church was marked as the answer
That is the way to do it. Too many times it is difficult to impossible to get people to come only for a business meeting. It should also be announced in advance.
It is up to the pastor to teach and preach about how important business meetings are. Solid, well taught and conscientious members will consider business meetings important and attend.

Its not bad Tony. I had mine done when I was 45, I am 80 now and don't regret having them done and never have. You will be so glad you did it once it heals and you find you can eat anything. They will put you out to pull them all.
From personal experience and as a possible help; you may want to try not using any type of denture adhesive. I used it for a few years and hated the process of having to scrape off the adhesive every night.
On the advice of a friend that had dentures, I tried not using any adhesive and was amazed that after I got used to it, they stayed put just fine and I could eat anything.

Jim_Alaska's post in Signs of the Times....Are we truly living in the last days? was marked as the answer
Since the days of the Apostles people have been sure that the return of Christ was near, even in their time, based on what they see going on around the world in general.

Jim_Alaska's post in A Place Called Hell was marked as the answer
I may be, and probably am, a bit paranoid when it comes to the "wording" of this subject. I hope I can explain what I am thinking, so that others don't get the wrong idea.
When I said "wording" above, I meant the exact wording, as in; "a place called Hell". My concern comes from what I have observed with Christians that are into "easy believism". (sp?)
In my experience, these folks usually have a pre-rehearsed "spiel" that they use when going door to door. somewhere in that spiel they will talk about Hell with the homeowner, but in every instance I have heard, they invariably say; "a place called Hell". They NEVER say the word Hell alone. It's almost like a "follow the leader" kind of thing; where that is what they were taught and so, that is always the way they say it.
Why is this a concern to me? Simple, when I hear this said this way, I always associate it with easy believism, which I do not agree with at all. To me, it is an "indicator". You know, it's the stuff where they use a pre-rehearsed spiel and if the person they are witnessing to will repeat a made up prayer asking Jesus into their heart, they are pronounced "saved".
This seems to be a "numbers game". They keep track of the number of people that have "made a decision", and whoever gets the most is seen as a great soul winner. As you can probably tell, I don't like this sort of what I call, "make believe evangelism". I have seen way too much of this sort of thing; which usually results in, no follow up, no Baptism, no teaching and no follow through on the part of the person supposedly saved.
I hope I have not offended anyone, and this is not intended for any one person on this board. But this is based on my experience and dislike of this method of soul winning.

Jim_Alaska's post in Holy Spirit baptism was marked as the answer
No TGL, these verses don't back up what you said. The body is local, not universal. God places each person in the local church as it pleases Him.
Your second sentence is correct. But in your other reply you said, "baptisms don’t have anything to do membership of any church".
Baptism is the "door" to membership in a local church. If you are not baptized you cannot be a member. This is basic Baptist doctrine that has been practiced from the beginning.
Acts 2:41 (KJV) Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
What these people were added to was the Local church and they were added by baptism. Saved, Baptized, Added, this is the proper order. You can only add to something that is already there, in this case it was the first church at Jerusalem. On the day of Pentecost three thousand souls were added to that church.

Jim_Alaska's post in In a Local church who is supposed to get paid? was marked as the answer
TGL you are forgetting that many times members give "special" offerings for things that the church budget doesn't cover. Our members raised over $17,000 for material for a new roof through special offerings.
And even beside that, church finances are to be used for ANY church expenses, even if YOU don't approve of it. That is why we are Independent, we get to vote on what we want money spent for. Our church's covenant states that any expenses over $500 must be put to a vote if they are not recurring utility expenses or mortgage expenses. I other words, "extras" must be voted on.
This is why you can't and shouldn't criticize other churches spending, you just don't know how they are set up to handle finances.
