Members Standing Firm In Christ
The Drunkard I woke up this morning alone and cold An empty wine bottle in my hand I now hold A knot in my stomach, a pain in my head A box in the alley is my only bed A doctor last month said, 'Soon you will die Cirrhosis has claimed you, there's no need to cry' He's done all he can, but still there is hope "Lord Jesus, I need you, with this I can't cope" A drunkard's not welcome in God's home above But Jesus can cleanse you with His precious blood So if you're tired of Ol' Slewfoot and his damning wine Just do what God says in First John One Nine If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Members Standing Firm In Christ
My oldest brother is what is referred to nowadays as a 'functioning alcoholic'. The Bible gives us the correct terminology, a drunkard. I pray for him daily. The Lord gave me this poem and I am hoping to put it on a tract with scripture showing the dangers of alcohol and the 'way of escape' Jesus Chrst. Keep him in your prayers, his name is Melvin

Members Standing Firm In Christ
Update on Melvin. Melvin passed on July 16th this year. Cirrhosis of the liver and Hepatitis C. The alcohol claimed him. His last days alive at the hospital, he did not want to receive calls from me or our mother because he was tired of us preaching to him through the years. His drinking buddies all drank a beer in his honor professing they would see him in heaven. I am quite sure that if they see him, it will not be in that place where drunkards are forbidden to enter.
