Members Psalms18_28
I did have thoughts that maybe this mother have left her kids in the car more than once and that I should report her. But I hoping that she probably just needed to go to the drugstore real quick and it took her longer than expected.
Members mainstays
For me when I am just around town here, I will leave the boys in the car if it's not going to take too long. (Town population is about 600). When I am in a larger town and will be 20 minutes or less and my 9 year old daughter is with then I will leave them in the car also, if she is not with then no. Having 2 boys both in car seats it is difficult to bring them in for just little bit.

Administrators HappyChristian Posted March 1, 2007 Administrators Share Posted March 1, 2007 I personally never left my son in the car when I went into the store. When I was teaching school, I didn't get to spend much time with him, so I enjoyed bringing him with me. After we moved to IN, I stayed home and babysat to help with the coffers. Many times my DH would stay with the kids to let me go shopping alone. There were also times I brought the older kids with me and brought them into the store. A town not too far from us has a casino, and people really flock to it. There has been more than 1 case of kids being left in the car so mom or dad could go gamble (and some of the kids have died due to either the cold or the heat). Sigh. I think if we lived in a little less scary society (I don't mean the laws, although some of them are scary enough, I mean the people that are around, even in small towns!), it would be less of a big deal, but we don't, so....! I remember when my son was less than 2. He was with a good friend of mine who was babysitting him. She had a little girl a little older than he. They fell asleep in the van before she got home, so instead of waking them up, she left them in the locked van and went into the house. I don't know how long it was before I got there (I do know it was at least an hour), but I was really angry. If she wanted to leave her child out there, that's her business, but not mine!!! Members Kubel
It depends on the area. If it were a safe location, I would. Martyr_4_FutureJoy
Members Psalms18_28
With so many kids in carseats, maybe they should just have a drive thru convenience store. Martyr_4_FutureJoy
Members dadof4
I feel for you folks with 3 or 4 kids. We have friends who have 3 all in car seats. I can't imagine taking all three kids out of the car seats, into the chinese place for the 30 seconds it takes to pickup your food (ask for chopsticks) and carry the food, kids, etc. all back just to load them all back in their seats. Hey, you know my family then - 3 in car seats. Very rarely have I left the kids in the car alone. I enjoy taking them into the stores and showing them off to the others in the store. As for unloading and reloading the kids, my eldest son (5 years old) can get himself in and out of his car seat no problem - even buckle it himself. My daugher (2 years old) can climb into her car seat, but can't buckle it. It is not a hard car seat to buckle, so it only takes a few seconds. My youngest son (5 months) just sits in his carrier which snaps into the base that is buckled into the seat of the car.
Members JerryNumbers
Surprising to me that any of you would leave a child in a car along. There is no safe place to leave a child in a car alone. Haven't y'all heard about people having left their child in the car alone just for a few moments and the car got high jacked? Not long back I read where a person had put one child in their car in their garage, went back to get the either one, when they go back the car was gone along with their child. Surely ones garage would be a safe place, but it wasn't. For a few years I ran a store in the country. A woman pulled up beside it, left her young boy in the car seat in the center of the pick up truck she was driving. She ran in the store and grabbed something and was paying for it at the cash register, I saw a horrible look on her face and she hollered, "Oh no!" She ran out the front door. This young boy had pulled the gear shift leaver out of gear and it had rolled into the highway. The store was located at the bottom of a hill where some times people would fly by running very fast. The truck rolled onto the highway, made a half circle them rolled backwards into a ditch. Thankfully the young boy was not hurt, but the only reason was no one came flying by as the truck rolled onto the highway and made the half circle. But I know it scared me and her both out of our minds, all I could do was look at this mother and think how stupid she was. Yes one car had just topped the hill coming towards us when this happened, they stopped, and the driver could not but help to think what it would have been like if she had been just a few seconds earlier, their face was white as a ghost. I know its a hardship many times not to leave a child in a car alone. But there is no safe time or place to do this. Our daughter is 36 years old, Linda nor I never left her in a car alone, not for just a few seconds.
Members bibletotingunslinger
I speak from experience, 48 years ago I was 2, I have a very clear memory of that stage of my life. My Dad(Not Tim) parked the 57 Super Chief out side a bar and locked me in the car. He was an alcoholic. I was in the car for a long time, I remember hugging the hump in the floor for its heat, a man come to the window and tried to get me to unlock the door, at 2 I did not know how or want to. Then a lady come out with my dads keys, they took me in the bar, and the sheriff took me home, in a green 4 door 1956 Ford with a big red beacon on top. His name was Sherm. At first he scared me but he was nice. FYI, you could shoot me and take my money and look me in the face and tell me your name, ask me a week later and I will tell you what you were driving and nothing else. I don't know why. PLEASE, NEVER leave a child where he or she could be abducted or hurt, PLEASE. You heard this from a 2 year old. I know I was 2 because my mom told me later it was on my birthday that happened. It is very cold on my birthday in Idaho. I have no bad feelings for my dad, just hope he found salvation before he died.

My older sister who is 7 years older than me was was watching me in the old 1970's FORD pickup truck while my mom went grocery shopping. I started to play with the gear shift while my older sister was reading a magazine and all a suddenly, the truck started to roll. My sister tried to stop it but she couldn't, so she got me out and we went in to get mom. thankfully the truck didn't roll that far down and everything was safe. Members Psalms18_28
Don't forget how one father left his child in the car while he went to get the other child. When he came back out, the child was gone. few days later, they found the child in the septic tank: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,248105,00.html It is always better to plan ahead.
