Computer Passwords

If your computer is being accessed, not much you can do about it if it's the admins. I am assuming they would know your password, as most companies issue you your password, which is handled by the admins.

The only thing you can do is probably change your password, that would fix it, assuming they do not have monitoring software on your PC. If you are absolutely sure that they are fiddling with your PC I would approach them and ask them what is going on.

Oh, and by the way, a faster way to lock your PC is to press the windows key (the one between the ctrl and the alt key on the left hand side) , and L at the same time (e.g. windows key + L).

I just talked to the it person. He said that he has no idea, and that I MUST have gave my password to somebody. :roll :roll :roll The only way my desktop could have been accessed if I GAVE someone my password, no other possibilities, this is what he said. :roll:roll:roll

Yes, they would have to have the password. Are you on the network when you come in and you are logged on? Or are you just logged on to that computer? Is your password something that could be guessed pretty easily?

...yeah, what Alen said too. We need lots of info. :wink

I am on a network when I come. My password is somewhat easy, but my co-workers tell me that nobody has been to my desk. So, someone must have unlocked it from another computer...yes or no?

There is 3 possibilities:

1. You forgot to lock your PC.
2. Someone has acquired your password by some means.
3. The Admin is lying.

It can be any of these 3, so it's hard to nail down which. First you can never really rule out the first one, because doesn't matter how sure we are, we are indeed fallible, I always double check to see if I locked my door when I leave the house, and once in a rare while I forgot to lock it properly and check.

Second one is the conspiracy theory, maybe you got some info on your PC someone really wants, if you do, than they could have multiple ways to acquire it, and you'd never know.

Third one is unlikely, and is also a conspiracy theory of sorts, but could be harmless, maybe one of the admins wanted to use something very quickly, logged into your PC to do it, and logged back out, not to access your files, but to perhaps get something off the internet. They do not want to admit it, simply because they might not want to get a lecture from the person they did it to.

Also it's important to know Madeline, do you use one PC to log into to do your work? Or can you log into any PC in the workplace? If it's the latter, your details are stored on probably Server 2003, in the Active Directory, and thus able to be accessed by multiple people.

Also just to answer your last point, if you are logged into your PC over there, then no. It was definitely from your PC not elsewhere on the network.

The IT person sure had a dead serious look on his face when he said "I don't know...did you give out your password?" I was 100% sure I locked my computer because I double-checked it. I don't have any valuable information on my computer, only my office programs needed to perform my work related duties. Oh well, I'll just have to move on. Thanks for all the help guys! :thumb

Love,
Madeline

If your password is easy, I wouldn't be surprised if someone figured it out...

And in answer to your question. It can be unlocked remotely providing you have logmein, gotomypc, etc. on your computer. But it would still require a username and password.

And did you choose the password or did the person who set up the network give it to you? Your network password would have been assigned on the Server and unless you know how to do it, someone else did it for you and knows your password.

I choose my own password, it was Jesus*** but I just now changed it. That's ok, I have nothing of valuable information on my computer.

well you know, it isn't your computer so it is not safe assume it is password protected especially if it on the network. Your company has the right to check your computer to make sure you are not doing anything sneaky.

One guy at my husband's work got fired because he was looking at porns at work. He thought he could get rid of the evidences, but turned out he can't.
