Members matie-k
Ok, we got a new computer, but the os is Windows Vista Chinese version. Our Chinese isn't quite up to snuff to be navigating through our computer with ease. So we're wanting to find something different in English version. What would you all recommend? My husband has been looking into some Linux freeware as well as other stuff that would cost some extra money.

Members matie-k
Thank you for the link to your dad's blog. I think my hubby will find that helpful and may even have a question or two for your dad. :smile I'm pretty clueless about it all!
Members Kubel
I suggest Ubuntu. There's even a Christian version of Ubuntu (called Ubuntu CE) at whatwouldjesusdownload.com. Ubuntu is one of the easiest distributions to learn linux on. And it's even easier than Windows to install. Definitely recommended!
Members matie-k
Ok, we've got Ubuntu running, and this firefox is working nice and fast! Now another question - I have friends/family that I chat with using either yahoo, msn, or skype chat. Is there a program I can download that would do all of them in one? Or do I just download them all back into this Ubuntu?
Members Gaelen
I don't know of any program that includes skype, you will probably have to use that one separately, but there is a program called Pidgin that incorporates many other chatting protocols. Members anime4christ
I personally use Kubuntu for 99% of my computing needs. Kubuntu is Ubuntu with the KDE desktop environment. I find KDE to be more mature feature-wise, while Gnome (Ubuntu's desktop) is more focused on usability and elegence. There is Skype for Linux available as a download (not in the repositories, AFAIK, which is the preferred way of installing applications): http://www.skype.com/download/skype/linux/choose/
